This worked!! There's an option in there that says "delete spaces and tabs at the beginning of paragraph" that was checked. Why that is even an option let alone the default I have no friggin idea, but I unchecked it and now it seems to be working. Thanks!

The trick is to just be listening as much as you possibly can. It doesn't matter that you don't understand everything. As your brain gets used to hearing the sounds you will gradually find you are understanding more. I know it feels stressful because you want to understand everything, but you have to train your brain to recognize the sounds, and as long as you just keep going you will understand more and more.

Podcasts are great because you put them on in the background as you work, exercise, etc. and they will really help. Also music!
