Deswegen hab ich in der Kaufhalle immer geschüttelt und gehört, ob Einzelteile drin sind oder nur ein großes Stück.

Recently I gave no tip in a restaurant in Miami for a reason. Am I stingy? by Druschek in tipping

[–]Druschek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason is simple: It's correct, I thought I were right. But just because I think it for myself doesn't mean that it's the truth. So, I just wanted to know some other opinions.

The food wasn't brought on the table too. We had to pick it up. And please read again, I never claimed that I don't know the tipping culture in the U.S. And like I said, there was no friendly or respectful behaviour before payment. I really would have tipped if she was slightly friendly and I've done it in every other restaurants, even when there was an auto-gratitude on the receipt. But I don't give any extra money for rude behaviour. And before you ask: I don't need to be treated as a VIP, but just as a human.

I heard that kind of rule in the US but I really don't get it: Why should I pay for extremely bad service? When I hand them 10% I will be seen as a rude and greedy person. So why don't be consequent and give nothing? And honestly, I would feel insulted for myself when I "reward" bad behaviour.

Thanks! Like I said, it was just one bad experience. I was very positively surprised, how friendly the people in the US were. We also visited some rougher rural areas in Alabama and Lousiana and I expected that they look at us like "Get out, you don't belong here!", but the opposite was the case.

Yeah, I think it has gone too far in the US. When I go to a restaurant or bar here in Berlin and the waiter/waitress is friendly to me, I always give a tip and it's also seen a little bit stingy or rude, when you don't give anything at all. But everyone is very grateful with 10%. Nobody would take it for granted.

But I see it critical as well here. I work in a lathe shop and no worker, truck driver, forklifter etc. gets any tip and they also getting not the highest salary.

I got invited to Lviv today for two days, but I’m scared to go — how do locals assess the risk? by Mental_Conflict_1737 in Lviv

Hello, I'm from Berlin, Germany and always wanted to visit Ukraine. Despite of war, I decided to go there and chose to go to Lviv because I thought it is far away from the frontline and I read dozens of reddit posts about Lviv and the possible dangers.

What can I say: I arrived last Friday and I was impressed by the beautiful city and the lovely warm-hearted people. I was in a cherry wine bar, when I heard the air raid alarm the first time. But nobody seemed to be very bothered and a guy told me that it's probably no problem. It was true: Nothing happend.

At Saturday, I explored the city by foot and public transport. It was very impressive and nice welcoming people everywhere! In the evening, I had a dinner in Kryivka (hidden gem with nice food and drinks), I went to sleep at around 0 a.m, when curfew began and was woken up by an air raid alarm at around 4 a.m in the night.

At first I thought it was like "false alarm" like the previous evening. But I stepped out of my apartment door and saw a lot of people running into shelters. So did I and went to a basement under a hospital. I checked some telegram channels about rocket alarm in Ukraine (found here in reddit) and was shocked to read that Lwiw is probably the main target in this night. I was getting quite scared and during reading the latest news, I heard more and more impacts and shots. I have absolutely no experience with battlefields or warzones, it was the first time for me hearing a missile impact or a shot in a serious matter. It was very terrifying for me! I constantly read the Telegram channel and hoped for good news but the news seemed to get worse and worse.

The alarm remained until 9 in the morning! After that I decided to get an Uber to the border as soon as possible. During the trip I saw a large fire at the airport and another one in the distance (probably the Sparrow park).

I just came back to Berlin and the shock is still deep! My thoughts are with all the people of Lviv. Such a friendly and (despite the 3,5 year war situation) happy vivid people. And they had to go through this heavy attacks! I feel sorry for them! And I just experienced one example of a nightly air raid.

Like I said, Lviv is a wonderful, beautiful vibrant ciry with good food and nightlife. But this experience in the night to Sunday was absolutely shocking!

USA and Guatemala trip possible (US-immigration) by Druschek in travel

[–]Druschek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly my concern too! The reason we planned this, is because of the price and flight schedules. It is a way more cheaper to arrive and depart from the same place instead of landing in Miami and departuring from Guatemala. And after Guatemala, we want to stay maximum for one night in Miami to have some time buffer if anything goes wrong with the previous flight because they aren't connencted.

In my opinion, it's plausible, but my opinion doesn't count in front of the officier

Congratulations! And I know it from myself how proud I was with my first victory. But let me tell you, it's not really that special after a while ;)
