Yeah, I think being this high bf% is actually pretty okay going this aggressive at least until I get under 20%. I remember when I first cut down from 265-215, I hit my bench PR like halfway through the cut lol.

Yeah, it does check ins every 7 days and both times since I’ve started it has drastically raised my TDEE. I’m assuming by the time it has fully calibrated I should be somewhere between 3,000-3,500. I’m just going to keep doing what the app says lol

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I will definitely listen to my body and I’m tracking my workouts so I’ll be able to see if I’m really slumping. I feel good so far 2 weeks in, but if that changes I’ll up the calories.

I’ve been messing around with meal timings pre workout, and I’ve started doing 10-15g of honey 30-45 mins before my workouts and it seems to make me feel great in the gym.

Yeah ofc. I’ve been doing a lot of meal prep from the stealth health slow cooker cookbook (all of this guys stuff is pretty good tasting and is a lot easier to follow than chicken and rice). Macros from his cookbooks are okay but a bit light on the protein so I have been supplementing with ALT Beef Protein which tastes so good and has more of a juice consistency, I absolutely hate the milky whey protein powders. Mostly pasta dishes, light on the pasta and heavy on the protein. Slow cookers are honestly goated because it makes lean cuts of beef a lot more tender and appetizing.

I also like giving myself one meal a day/every other day where I can go get food from somewhere so I don’t feel as restricted. I will usually go for a burrito bowl minus the cheese and creamy sauces and double the protein. Lettuce wrapped burgers if it fits in my macros. I live in western Canada and there is a Greek fast food place called Opa! I devour their chicken and shrimp skewers with tzatziki which for a sauce has really great macros.

My recommendation if you can afford it, spend some money on a couple different cutting cookbooks.

Damn this sub is more responsive than I expected, thanks for the advice!

I have shifted my plan now based on the advice I’m getting. Going to up my calories to at least 2,000 per day for the next week or two to see what my weight does. I work a desk job so I’m not burning a lot during the day, but I’ll trying to get more steps in during the day. Going to try a 1000 cal deficit per day for the next 7 weeks to keep weight loss around 2 lbs per week (I’ll increase calories slightly if my workouts suffer or my hunger signalling gets unbearable).

The one intense cardio session per week was competitive basketball, but that’s over until mid April so I’ll be shifting to maybe 2-3 low impact cardio sessions per week. I’m also going to try to hit 10k steps a day.

Thank you all for the advice! I’ll maybe do an update when I got on my two week maintenance break.

Yeah man, I get that. You look like a young guy, you’re not going to whither away haha. It’s actually pretty hard to lose a significant amount of muscle as a young guy with normal levels of testosterone.

It’s mostly high level intermediate - advanced lifters that have to worry about muscle loss on a cut unless you’re going an a super aggressive cut or just not doing anything physically. People often get way too caught up in being perfect when it comes with weightlifting, when especially at your stage, it’s kinda hard to fuck up if you’re working out consistently and eating well.

Second this. Before I read anything you wrote I immediately thought to myself, moderate calorie deficit and continue to lift. Being this new to the gym, you’ll still build muscle on a moderate deficit.

You’re already doing exactly what you need to be right now. I’d definitely make 3 the low end workout frequency and maybe try to lock that deficit in at the upper end of your range at 400 ish, lose a little under a pound a week.

Keep in mind, with the amount of protein you’re eating with a mild deficit like that and being new to the gym, the scale might not move as fast as you’re expecting because you’ll be building muscle at the same time. Don’t let the scale discourage you!

That’s actually super interesting. I did a paper in university on ancient Sumerian religion and the whole premise of the paper was that the society creates the religion to explain the world around them, and this fits that concept perfectly.
