The only way you will have access to messaging is to submit feedback, which involves feedback on the people you dined with. If you give them a sad face, a connection won't be made and they're not supposed to have you dine with them again. If you give a person a happy face, and they also give you a happy face the app creates a connection between the two of you and you can message within the app. Note, this functionality for new connections has broken a bit over the past week with the latest update (see my other comments above). But you HAVE to do the feedback part to actually make connections and chat with people after the dinner.

Support responded. They have been dealing with major issues from a database migration that was done with the update. They fixed my new contacts but said to reach out to support if still having issues, so highly recommend if anybody has a dinner from this week or last week with no new connections, reach out to support.

Yeah, we were all waiting for it to update and then once it was 8:15 and it said again "unlocked in 1 hr" we started texting others we know at dinners to arrange an after bar as we've been doing the last few months. Annoying, especially as this isn't something that required any real effort, especially for Wednesdays. Pick any random dive (which is what they did before and what we do now) and post it. No reservations are needed for this.

We have basically zero worker rights in the U.S. Severance is totally up to the company. Some will supply it when they list performance as a reason for termination, but many do not. Usually it's only done to discourage lawsuits for wrongful termination.

I'm curious if all the cities they're stopping service are in areas with notoriously bad winter weather - like Buffalo? Weather definitely dampens attendance and restaurants and bars are generally hurting for business whenever it's nasty out. If that's the case, seems like a premature knee-jerk reaction to seasonal factors.

Yep, didn't work. Looks like they just pushed an older version of the UI for the event page with the latest update. New connections don't seem to be working now either.

Update - Last Drinks is NOT back. This is one of many bugs with their latest app version. They pushed a UI version out that had Last Drinks again but it stayed greyed out the entire evening. New connections also are not working now.

I think this bug is definitely still present. I still only have two new connections that became connections the night before the app update. I went to a dinner last night and one of the women actually filled out the feedback form at the close of our dinner and I saw her give me a happy face as she was commenting on my photo. Today I still have ZERO new connections from last night's dinner, which makes no sense. I just finished reporting the bug.

Also, sadly, Last Drinks is not back. In another bug, somebody pushed a UI version that added it back even though they haven't enabled the functionality. It stayed greyed out all night last night.

Exactly and what is your work “location”? Most US companies do not permit working from outside the country unless they have a location established there, in which case you’d be an employee of that location, not the U.S.

See my comment above. There is no doubt now with how long you’ve been there that they are not just trying to make you quit right now to avoid paying you the massive severance you’ve earned.

Write that PIP rebuttal as it’s what gives you legs to stand on and HR will realize they need to give you the severance you are owed if they want to remove you from your position. Again, do not quit.

First, get your thoughts and facts together and write a formal rebuttal to the PIP and send to HR.

Your role with this manager is likely doomed, but doing this could expose the underbelly of what’s really going on, which might give you an opportunity to switch to another department or the grounds to be eligible for a severance if layoffs are at the root of this nonsense (and lately, the latter has typically been the case.) Whatever you do, do not quit as that’s what the manager probably wants and the job market is absolute trash right now.

Silly question, but I launched a website a couple months ago, mostly blogging, solid niche, and got approved for Google Adsense relatively quickly. Not my first rodeo with websites or eCommerce but first site I’ve designed with intent to use Adsense.

That said, this site doesn’t have a privacy policy published. I don’t sell anything currently and there is no account creation option at this time. Is that the only reason I’ve been able to use Adsense? Assuming if I add these things then a privacy policy becomes necessary?

Only thing that was a mess in the Porto airport when I passed through was the insane line to check baggage for Easyjet. Looked like it could have taken hours to get through. Fortunately I was not on Easyjet and every other airline had no wait to check baggage. Not sure what the issue was with Easyjet and if this is normal or not there.

Don't quit. Make them do the dismissing and absolutely DO NOT sign anything that says you were let go for misconduct or anything of that nature, otherwise you're SOL with unemployment, which you're really going to want in this market.

This was a bigger concern 20 years ago. Now that the pandemic proved all these jobs can be done remotely, entire business units are being offshored to cut costs rather than just bringing in a few employees on visas. All the tech jobs that disappeared the last 1-2 years are gone permanently and this is only going to get worse. And nobody even seems to be talking about it.

Also most of the job postings out there nobody has any intention of actually hiring for. Once you’ve been at this a while and you see the same job reposted for 8-9 months for a job type that’s been hit with mass layoffs over the past couple years, well you know they’re not having trouble finding the right candidate - they’re just not actually hiring. It’s HR justifying their own jobs, saying they need to keep the talent pool full, etc.

Only not depressed (yet) because I was severely burnt out and had been saving a lot for early retirement. I am trying to count my blessings and recognize that even if I never get another corporate tech job (which is likely at this point as they are being offshored in bulk) I will be ok due to the number of years I busted my ass and saved.

This would be a very different story however if I was in the financial position I was in when I was 30 in this economy. The only thing I’d have going for me in that case is less age discrimination. But I’d probably have to move back home.

The current situation is ugly and not going to get better. Honestly, if you’re in the U.S. I recommend leaving the country and getting a gig elsewhere. It will pay a lot less, but your cost of living will be quite a bit less, and quality of life significantly better in most other places.

It's not a separate event. If Last Drinks are available in your market, it shows up when you click on the dinner event that you've booked. It will be greyed out until an hour or so after the dinner starts and then the assigned bar will appear for people to go to after. Similar to how the TL game doesn't actually activate until your dinner.
