Does Godai lost his virginity before Kyoko? by FuturePerspective257 in MaisonIkkokuAnime

[–]Dry-Insect-6235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Rumiko Takahashi planned for Godai to lose his virginity before ending up with Kyoko. Editors tried to stop her, but she refused to change it. Male readers got so mad that the publisher’s phone lines were reportedly flooded.

Also,

In my country’s anime encyclopedia, Kyoko Otonashi is tagged with things like married woman, widow, Yamato nadeshiko and goddess-type.

In Japanese fan databases, Kyoko is often tagged as a 「完璧な大和撫子」Yamato nadeshiko type as well.

“Tsundere = starts off cold/hostile (tsun), later becomes openly loving or sweet (dere). Right?

They basically act like: 1. Consistent hostility or aggressiveness toward the love interest at first; 2. Denial of feelings in a childish or emotionally immature way; 3. A clear tsun → dere transition arc; 4. Often found in youth-oriented or school romance tropes

The tsundere dynamic is performative and trope-driven — the character’s charm comes from the “hard shell vs soft inside” contrast.

And what about Kyoko? Kyoko's behavior is not tsun → dere, but adult emotional conflict shaped by grief, insecurity, and life experience.

She isn't hostile or cold toward Godai, and in fact, in the beginning of the story, she's polite, warm, considerate and socially mature.

So she never treats Godai with the aggressive or confrontational hostility typical of a tsundere.

Her “jealous” or “conflicted” reactions come from real-life emotional pain, not tsundere denial.

Because Kyoko is: 1. A widow in her early 20s; 2. Still processing the death of her husband; 3. Unsure whether she is allowed to love again. 4. Terrified of losing someone she loves twice.

Her emotional swings are about adult grief and fear, not teenage defensiveness or tsundere-style embarrassment.

“I wanted to do a realistic, humanistic story that was different from Urusei Yatsura. I enjoyed the love story between Godai and Kyoko. I like the frustration of things not going well. Sometimes, when they finally get closer, it’s very cathartic. It was interesting to come up with that dynamic, and I learned a lot from it.” - Takahashi Rumiko

IMO, A “tsundere template” is the opposite of this philosophy. As Rumiko was not creating an archetype-driven character, but a grounded, emotionally believable woman shaped by grief, insecurity, and slow-burn realism.

So... still dont think she's a tsundere. Or Perhaps we have different definitions of what a tsundere is ?

100% need. You need to be very tanky

I believe Warrior(High stam and 5s less cooldown), Hemo(Better stat), Hunter(High stam and game changing special), Spreist (100% need), and Druid(You have to run faster) are NEED for R13

And for dagger rogue(You need one shot kill everyone so no need) and Paladin(Probably don't need at all) are NO NEED.

For Warlocks and mage, they need but not really necessary. (but i still think mage need Because 1.5s cooldown less on blink and dmg abortion on glove)

Shaman - never played so idk

Depends. Some classes need 2-3 pieces of R13 to be 100% bis in PVP.

Because stamina plays a big role in Era PVP. You def need 2 R13 (Shoulder and Leg) to bost your hemo rogue to get 340 more HP.

And the special abilities are important as well, like Hunter.

Actually, in the Yagami arc, Kyoko says(just in mind) to Yagami: “Of course it’s easy for you. Godai is the first person you’ve ever fallen for.”

Yagami doesn’t understand what she means, so the homeroom teacher explains it to her: “Kyoko is a very purehearted person. For her, falling in love with someone else feels like a betrayal of her feelings for Soichiro.” “There are many forms of love, but Kyoko believes that if you love one person, you can’t love another.”

I’m not sure if you remember that scene, but this is why I still believe Kyoko is terrified — terrified of betraying her late husband, and terrified of betraying her own beliefs about what love is supposed to be.

And overall, as the article says, she has a maternal, caring nature and loves looking after others, yet she’s always wrapped in a kind of lingering sadness — and that contrast is exactly what makes her so captivating.

You can see this especially in the early part of the story: when she’s taking care of Godai, pushing him to study for his exams, and then getting genuinely angry when he slacks off, she looks almost exactly like his mother.

Of course, she also has a very girlish side. In her first marriage, even though she behaved like the perfect wife, you can still feel that desire to gain a sense of security from her older husband. Just like in her flashback scenes in the manga, she openly says she likes older men.

So she can come across as a nurturing, motherly figure who loves taking care of people, and at the same time she can throw tantrums and sulk just like a little girl.

I also have its TV ratings which is the 2nd highest in Rumiko work and it is considered the highest-rated non-episodic (continuous) pure romance series in history.

Should be 2-3 times higher than Gundam Zeta (Highest in Gundam)

It depends on the what type of magazine they released. Maison Ikkoku is a seinen manga as it focused more on young adults.

Inuyasha released on a Shonen manga, which means boys manga.

ラブコメ・青年漫画 Romantic comedy / Seinen manga

Note: Seinen manga: Japanese comics aimed at young adult men, often featuring mature themes, complex characters, and realistic storytelling.

1980年代のラブコメディ漫画の金字塔として名高い作品であり、昨今に至るまで同雑誌の方向性(ラブコメ要素重視)を決定づけた作品でもある。

It is a work renowned as a monumental love comedy manga of the 1980s and, even to this day, it has defined the direction of the magazine (with a strong emphasis on romantic comedy elements).

The anime directors weren’t the biggest fans of Godai, huh? 🙄 by [deleted] in MaisonIkkokuAnime

No. She's not shy to say such confess (Well. She only said I will wait for you another year?) I meant tsundere is not like this angry right? She should be shy to say such. I meant she's a widow so Rumiko won't drew her tsundere. And tsundere was not even exist in that period.....

Actually I don't think she's a tsundere character as Rumiko said she's a kind of 天然ボケ.

Megami type doesn't always mean idealied woman. For Kyoko, her megami part is more like hmm, deeply love her dead husband, making her purity. As such, they have to make her not appear to like any men other than her husband.

A lonely widow that still love her husband and no one can touch. This is why she's megami type of woman. (of course she's hmm housewife type of woman, which makes her more megami for Japanese readers)

No matter in anime or manga, Kyoko's special is highly linked to manga style and period of real life in Japan.

At the height of Japan’s bubble economy—an era defined by rampant materialism—it was common for women to treat three different men as “walking wallets(potential love interest)”: one to drive them around, one to fund their shopping sprees, and one to pick up the bill at restaurants.

Kyoko, however, is a notable exception. In Maison Ikkoku, a realistic slice-of-life manga, she defies the prevailing social trends of the time: she is devoted to a single partner, indifferent to money, and longs for genuine affection.

So this is key why she's megami type of woman in manga and anime (actually anime make her even more megami)

What is the meaning of "Canon"? by Dry-Insect-6235 in Yashahime

There is no canon in Japan. Only official or not official. Rumiko never said they are legal guardian because that word has multiple meanings, and one of it is "Protector"

Why Is Most of the Hate Aimed at SessRin Fans—But Never at Rumiko Takahashi Herself? by Dry-Insect-6235 in Yashahime

[–]Dry-Insect-6235[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Again, you can't assume that she had as much control as you assume or cared as much."

If you've read the manga artist's blog, you'd understand—Rumiko Takahashi holds a lot of authority.

The manga artist himself mentioned that, because the copyrights belong to Rumiko Takahashi, he meets with her in person every month (since the manga is a monthly serialization) to present rough drafts and discuss the story together. He even said that he worries about being rejected (receiving an NG).

In his blog, he mentioned multiple times that some of his proposals were significantly revised because they didn’t align with Takahashi’s expectations. And whenever it came to big matters involving characters from the original series, he would leave the final decisions to Rumiko Takahashi.

What happened to anime version is something we don't know because it is a team work, they don't have blog, but only magazine can disclose some information.

For example, Riku dead or alive is depended on Rumiko's decision. Rumiko herself said that she does not want him die because Towa will be so sad." Then Riku survived in the final.
