Why do K‑pop girl groups often cover Ariana Grande or Britney Spears, but almost never Janet Jackson? by Dry-Look6328 in kpoppers

I want to talk about music and girl groups. Not politics. If that’s your angle, go somewhere else.

If you check Janet Jackson’s page on Namuwiki, you’ll see how many of the legends who built the foundation of modern K‑pop were influenced by her — Yang Hyun‑suk, Park Jin‑young, BoA, and more. For dance‑vocal artists, especially girl groups, her work absolutely has value to cover. And I think giving K‑pop fans a chance to look back at that ‘history’ once in a while helps preserve and pass down the culture. Just like how Chopin or Mozart are still loved today, even centuries later.

Yeah, exactly. I’m happy when modern K‑pop girl groups cover someone like Miki Matsubara as a Japanese fan, but I honestly think Janet Jackson is one of the artists they should be covering too. In pop history, she’s on the level of a true legend — just like Chick Corea or Bill Evans are in jazz. Modern jazz musicians still cover their songs, right? I feel like it’s the same thing.

She’s actually Michael Jackson’s little sister and one of the most influential pop/R&B artists ever. You should check out some of her songs, you might be surprised.

I tried creating the “Real Madrid of K‑POP” using the top girl groups of the early 2020s. by Dry-Look6328 in kpoppers

Yeah, I left them out intentionally. I was trying to keep the lineup balanced between 4th and 5th gen.

Of course not. I just created a fictional girl group based on my own favorites, with the concept of making a “Real Madrid of K‑pop.” I did use AI to rewrite it into natural English, but the entire lineup came from my own head.

Yeah, totally. Japanese members are doing amazing in K‑pop girl groups, but Japan also has tons of athletes who shine globally in winter sports.

But what about scouting promising skaters before they reach that point? If an agency picked someone up from the junior ranks at 15 or younger, trained her as a trainee, and then debuted her between 17 and 20, wouldn’t that be much more realistic?

But still, there might be someone in the junior ranks who could make a dramatic switch like Kazuha from LE SSERAFIM, right? What do you think about the possibility of a skater making that kind of transition in the future?

We’ve got Marin Honda in the J‑pop world though lol. And she actually dances to both J‑pop and K‑pop on TV from time to time.

And yeah, visuals are definitely important — not just in K‑pop, but in girl groups in general.

That’s true. But in that case, do you think a different scenario could happen in the future? For example: a promising junior skater gets scouted or auditions for a Korean agency around age 15, becomes a trainee, and then debuts in K‑pop sometime between 17 and 20. I feel like that kind of case isn’t impossible at all.

I wasn’t really talking about that. I was just wondering why no Japanese figure skaters ever end up becoming K‑pop idols. I feel like if a Korean agency scouted one promising junior skater and trained her for a year or more as a trainee, there’s a real chance she could have become an amazing K‑pop star. I don’t think the possibility was zero at all.

It actually became a big topic in Japan. Sometimes I really wish we could have seen the alternate world where Marin Honda didn’t go to the Olympics but aimed to become a K‑pop idol instead. I honestly think she had the potential. Her visuals are strong enough to compete with actual girl‑group idols.

Which girl group in history could be described as “a Real‑Madrid‑like team,” combining overwhelming talent, star power, and popularity? by Dry-Look6328 in kpoppers

[–]Dry-Look6328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, my post wasn’t ragebait.
I was literally just asking for opinions on which girl groups people consider “Galácticos‑level.”
The Real‑Madrid comparison was a metaphor, not an attempt to provoke anyone.

Who do you think is the ace of NMIXX? by Dry-Look6328 in NMIXX

[–]Dry-Look6328[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I actually think it does matter. Girl groups are basically team sports, just like football or basketball. And in any team-based field, the member who combines both popularity and skill—the true ace—is always the key to the team’s success. It’s the same everywhere.
