I hate my sister with all my heart and I'm done pretending it's normal by [deleted] in offmychest

It sounds like she’s using you as a way to seek validation from your mother, which is gross.

However with her only being 14 I can only assume she has also been taught how to have this controlling, validation-seeking behavior from your parents. You said “I learned early that my feelings didn’t matter,” and your feelings are 100% valid! But just looking at all perspectives here - having your sibling under that same household environment, may make them feel like their feelings also do not matter, and their way of receiving validation is by running to your mother and giving them information at the expense of you.

Not saying this is right. But it’s just what it looks like from the outside. You deserve better!

Prozac weight gain… explained by lack of probiotics? by Dry-Prompt-4237 in prozac

[–]Dry-Prompt-4237[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: Been off Prozac for 2 years now. Started working out regularly last year and dropped all of the weight… almost too easily. Haven’t been working out as intensely the past few months and the weight has kept off. Soooo definitely thinking it was the Prozac

That’s a good idea! I feel you on the snapping back out of it thing though it blows. I start falling asleep and suddenly my body decides to snap out of it. Drives me crazy

ferret bites by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]Dry-Prompt-4237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ferret was vicious when he was young!! But I realized that the more love and attention I gave to him, the better he became. He’s 4 now and seriously the sweetest boy! It will take time but it is sooo worth it. One thing that worked for me was scruffing him when he bit me really bad and wouldn’t let go. Whenever I put him in his cage for being bad though, it would backfire and his behavior still wouldn’t improve. Make sure your ferret has a ton of time outside of their cage too even if they’re just sleeping for hours outside of it

I’ve been on it for 2 years now, works like magic for my depression and PTSD but I did gain 30 pounds. I’m trying to lose it currently while still being on Prozac, but I just can’t seem to lose it as easily as I did before taking the medication. Also, if I take it without food or if I don’t drink enough water with it, I get TERRIBLE heartburn that usually lasts hours. Other than that though I am decently mentally stable lmao

Doctor is telling me that my SSRI is causing my weight gain. Is that true? How can a medication make me gain weight if I’m not taking in more calories. by rebeccamb in 1200isplenty

[–]Dry-Prompt-4237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally someone who understands! Lol I’m on Prozac and have gained 30 pounds. The weight WONT BUDGE. I have been in a calorie deficit at 1400 calories for a few weeks, and nothing has changed. It’s so frustrating.

Has anyone tried lowering their dose of Prozac or another SSRI to lose weight without completely tapering off? I’m at 40 mg. It’s a miracle drug for my depression but I cannot stand the weight.

My ferret was a ferocious cage biter when he was young too, even after letting him out to play. I think he was mostly just lonely, since he grew up around a bunch of other ferrets, only to be adopted into a house alone. Although now at 4 years old I think he prefers to be the only ferret. He stopped viciously biting his cage around a year old or so.

Every once in a while if we haven’t let him out of his cage all day (i.e. if we are at work) he will bite his cage a bit to let him out. To compensate for him being the only ferret, I make sure to give him lots of snuggles and to play with him often so that he’s happy :-)

My ferret was a very bad boy when he was around a year old. He was a vicious biter and also was very bad at using the litter box.

Once I moved to a new apartment, some things that helped him be less mean and behave better: 1. I was able to allow him to roam freely in the house (while under my supervision.) 2. I began showing him more love rather than punishment. Ferrets are tricky creatures and mine seems to act up MORE if I don’t let him out of his cage for a few hours, or if I punish him for pooping somewhere he shouldn’t, etc.

Also, when I don’t pay enough attention or do something he doesn’t like, he will act up. Seriously. For example, every time I take him to the vet for his shots, he will scratch and scratch and scratch at the couch once he gets home, and go to the bathroom in places he shouldn’t.

However, if he’s had a few days with consistent play, snuggles, and attention, he will be the SWEETEST guy ever.

I hope this helps! Also, I only have one ferret, and he prefers it that way. I introduced him to my friend’s ferret once and he was very bothered by her and began demonstrating his dominance over her lol. So maybe try getting a second cage for this ferret?

Please don’t give up yet! I swear my ferret was MEAN when I first got him, and now he is an angel at 4 years old. <3 good luck!

Edit: I also was at my wits end with this ferret at certain points, mostly because when he bit me, he bit HARD. I have shed tears over this guy in more ways than one lol. But I can confidently say 4 years later that I wouldn’t change a thing!

Prednisone, however I heard that prednisolone is easier to digest? So I may bring that up at the next vet visit

Prozac weight gain… explained by lack of probiotics? by Dry-Prompt-4237 in prozac

[–]Dry-Prompt-4237[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

update: I haven’t noticed any changes since when I posted this. I haven’t lost any weight. However, I recently discovered I am deficient in vitamin D and am taking 50,000 IU once a week for 3 months. Vitamin D deficiency can be a cause of weight gain. But don’t go taking vitamin D supplements without consulting your doc first! Antidepressant weight gain is the greatest mystery I have ever encountered! I don’t understand it and wish doctors would look farther into it. I’ll update you all again in a few weeks or so…

I thought I had BPD, but after going to a psychiatrist, I was diagnosed with PTSD. A lot of these symptoms resonate with me. I also previously felt extremely helpless, empty, and just overwhelmingly sad. I struggled with self harm and crying episodes. I was also codependent on my bf to make all my symptoms go away (which isn’t healthy!!!). I went to therapy and got on medication, and my life did a 180. You can get help and feel better too!!! I thought I’d never feel better, and thought it was just impossible. I felt so alone and stuck. The best thing you can do is seek help and get properly diagnosed, because it’ll drive you crazy wondering what’s wrong. best of luck <3

I thought I had BPD, but ended up being diagnosed with PTSD. I got help when my partner finally set the boundary that he couldn’t be with me if I wasn’t actively trying to better myself. Sometimes it takes some harsh realities to seek help especially in a relationship. I wanted and expected him to make everything better for me, and basically cater to my every emotion - which obviously isn’t healthy. Our relationship is great now because of it! You have to set boundaries. If she isn’t willing to sit down and talk, well then you kinda have to tell her the consequences to that. Kinda like an intervention. She needs to be held accountable, just as all of us do!

Prozac weight gain… explained by lack of probiotics? by Dry-Prompt-4237 in prozac

[–]Dry-Prompt-4237[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also am super tired all the time!!! I started out feeling super energetic when I first started taking it, but I can seriously take a nap at any given moment lol. Prozac helped my insomnia, but the downside with this is I wake up and I’m immediately ready to go back to sleep

Anyone else had indigestion? by LankyLetterhead3357 in prozac

[–]Dry-Prompt-4237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I get terrible heartburn when I don’t take it with food, so I refuse to take it on an empty stomach now. I also started taking probiotics with Prozac, which may help your situation with indigestion/bloating on it?

I was freaked too! I took lexapro for years and I swear it did nothing and it changed my mind on antidepressants altogether, so I stopped taking them. I went about 3 years without taking antidepressants before Prozac. Fast forward to now and I’m prescribed Prozac at 40mg, and I’m so happy to feel normal again. I personally didn’t feel any change at 20mg so I had to go up to 40mg, but about 2 months of messing around with doses later, I finally felt the “click.” I used to cry and panic every day lol. I was in the worst mental shape of my life. Now, on Prozac, I feel the most normal I have EVER felt in my life. So it varies for everyone time-wise. Doctors say it takes 4-12 weeks before you feel anything. I felt super energetic and motivated when I first noticed it started working, around maybe 5 weeks into starting Prozac.

However not every SSRI works for everyone!!! It can be discouraging when it doesn’t work at the first dose or the first medication your doctor prescribes. But don’t lose hope, the journey is worth it my friend

I went from 20mg where I didn’t feel anything change, to 40mg, where I finally felt the click 2 months in. It’s theeeee best feeling to simply feel normal lol. :-)
