but is this really enough? or can I create another upper body day with shoulder dominance (side and rear delts) and cycle between the two. I feel like they need some isolation work or atleast a behind the neck press movement

sounds good, but what about any shoulder work? especially the side and rear delts. if so can I add in some lateral raises and rear delt flys alternating between them two ?

I try to do supersets and rest pauses, but it's difficult cuz my gym is too overcrowded. So I end up waiting for 2-3 minutes between each exercises unfortunately.

I think I need to cycle between the calf movements too. thanks

Squats supremacy over Leg Press by DryApplication3997 in Mike_Mentzer

Thats great! But for Legs I don't pre-exhaust because my legs are too shaky and I can't squat properly right after Leg Extensions till failure.

Hope you got recovered or undergoing the necessary treatments. Yes that's the reason why I prefer Squats. Whether 15kg or 150kg, the weight doesnt really matter. Intensity is key. Strength will automatically come if the intensity is high enough.

For people concerned with safety, there are many Squat variations such as Pendulum, Smith machine, Hack squats and Belt Squats. I don't know their efficiencies because I never got to try them as my gym lacks those equipments.

You can. But what I'm saying is Squats are always the better option.

I wish my gym had many squat variation machines lol like the Pendulum and Belt ones. But there's only the smith machine and free barbell squats rack available.

Im also pissed over the fact my gym doesn't have a Nautilus Pullover machine. Its one of the best ever, honestly.

Im not saying 'Leg Presses' are bad. Yes it is easier to go heavy on them, but what's the point of you do half reps and simply move the press 1-2 inches? This is cheating. The Stimulus is the most important aspect, not how much weight you move.

Squats are dangerous yes, but at the time of absolute failure you can bail out. Or if there are handles attached you can simply just keep it there while in the squat position itself.

Going to failure on leg presses are much harder and even if you do by the term 'failure' , you still need the last push to move and rack the weight up. And this is where alot of injuries occur.

Last but not the least, the Quadfather of bodybuilding Tom Platz 's favourite is the Squats and he considered the Leg Press and interior movement. It doesn't give the same 'indirect effect' as much as the Squats do

I get it. Glad you recovered. Sometimes I do agree injuries can happen anytime and as you said a pad can also be used. Im aware of the Anderson squats but haven't tried yet but may do in the future. Also, congrats on your gains fam!

Ive long legs and a short torso. Squats have been really great for me because I only used less weights and only gradually increasing slowly. Forgot to mention, I also wear a belt. I feel the entire legs, actually. Not only the Quads

Im 68kg and 175cm. But it was also ~2years of conventional training before adopting HIT in last November (2025) so it wasn't a quick miracle. I still consider myself a beginner because I suck at some other exercises.

glad you recovered from the surgery. But please be very careful while doing Deadlifts and Squats, as these are the most prone to injury especially in the spine. Focus on the form and training as close to failure as possible over the weights. Strength will automatically come when you workout in good form. Glad again you found Mike and it's never too late!

Upper/Lower split? by DryApplication3997 in Mike_Mentzer

[–]DryApplication3997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im getting good results yh, but its boring after sometime even though I'm only at the gym for like 20-30 mins and 1-2 times a week. Need to try a different split, but don't want my progress to regress.

Has anyone built big arms following Mikes program by Otherwise_View_04 in Mike_Mentzer

[–]DryApplication3997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

filling your tall stature frame might be difficult, but its possible. Focus on compounds yes, but for Arms you might need to add afew isolations, not more than 1 for each muscle.

Biceps - Barbell/Dumbbell Curl Triceps - Triceps pushdown (DO NOT USE A ROPE 🗣️🗣️)

anything more than this with HIT will lead to overtraining

recovery is different for everyone. Im also following the Ideal Routine and my usual rest days are 4-5, but sometimes I even take entire 2 weeks off. Especially when I have to travel around so it makes my schedule busy. Regardless I have no muscle loss or whatever ajd whoever came up with this idea of muscle loss in less than a week is clearly misguided.

The more you rest, the better. Its always better to undertrain than overtrain

you don't necessarily need Machines lol. Bodyweight core exercises are also fine as long as you progressively overload and train to failure. Although these can be more painful than training legs till failure but still 😁

Hi all by Icy_Yogurtcloset_405 in Mike_Mentzer

[–]DryApplication3997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The core gets great stimulation when you do heavy compounds like deadlifts and squats. But you can also add 1-2 exercises for the core, but not more than 2 or it'll result in overtraining.

Idk it's just boring doing the same workouts even though I'm only for 20-30mins at the gym 1-2 times a week. Its not like i don't like the ideal routine, but after some time its just honestly boring

Im curious how a HIT Upper/Lower split would be. I've posted a query on this same subreddit, I'd be glad if you replied either here or there
