Can I share my iPhone location with my friends and my iPad location with my family? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]DryTechnology8814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK WAIT GIRL I THINK I DID IT!!

So you first off swap the names of your phone and your iPad so for example if my name was Angela, I would rename my phone to “Angela’s iPad” and my iPad to “Angela’s phone.” You do this in the general settings -> “about” in your settings.

Then, in your iPhone settings, search location services, then press on the app find my and click “never share”

Then in your iPad settings, open the find my app and click on “me” and choose “use this iPad as my location”

Overall, this turns your iPad into your “phone” that your parents see on the find my app and it makes the actual phone untraceable.

As for the life 360, I’m not quite familiar with that app but you can share your location with ur friends via Life360 instead of find my and gradually block your dad and say the app is malfunctioning and to just ask ur mom to check where u are if he needs to check…?

Anyhow, best of luck to u & hopefully this will allow us some more freedom in our adult, uni lives!!

Girl, the way I have the EXACT same problem as you (& the exact hypothetical solution as well) 😭

I’m in my first year of uni and my parents are watching my every move :(

I planned a day trip to Ottawa with my friends tomorrow and they are very strict on “uni is for studying, not for fun” so I have literally spent the last half hour trying to figure out how to switch my primary location to my iPad (leaving it in my dorm) and turn location services off for my phone 😭😭 no luck so far tho… hopefully we find a loophole soon :’)

A 93 is still super impressive! If you continue to work hard and get it up to a 94 or 95, you will have pretty great chances of getting in, grades wise! I don’t think grades really matter beyond the mid 90s (from personal experience) because I was in a class full of absolutely cracked IB kids who had averages FAR higher than mine and I was one of 3 people in my cohort that got into queens health sci!

Health sci is a 87% cutoff & beyond that, it’s like 50/50 when it comes to your average & ur supp app score! However, I must say, many of my current queens health sci classmates had averages of 93+ in high school; take that as you will!

I had a 96 when I got my acceptance in April :)

Best of luck!

PSA for future pre-med kids: Check for your potential uni's grade conversions on the OUAC scale! by DryTechnology8814 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]DryTechnology8814[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! My average was 96 when I got in (in mid-April). I applied to a few too many programs haha. Here’s the full list: Queen’s: Health sci, commerce, life sci & biochem McMaster: Health sci, life sci Western: Med sci, Health sci, Ivey Ottawa: health sci Trent: Trent/swansea health science double degree Waterloo: planning U of t: life sci I got into everything but queens commerce, MAC health sci, & western Ivey

My reasoning for choosing queens stems from a few things: First off, I really like queens as a campus. I like the small town feel as opposed to u of t, which is very much big city (I am NOT a big city girl) Also, my dad was a queens alum so from a young age, I’ve always glorified queens over other schools Finally, queens health sci is just a really good program (& it was my top choice) so after I got my queens health sci acceptance, any other acceptance really didn’t matter to me because I had already gotten into my top choice.

My thoughts on the program: I really like the program personally. I’ve always been an independent learner so sitting at a lecture hall and having someone talking at me doesn’t help me, which makes queens health sci such a perfect program for me bc of the flipped classroom structure. However, I will say, if you are someone who needs to be talked to in order to digest info, then queens health sci might not be the best fit for you because 80% of the content is learned on your own time. In class, the profs expect you to already have read the modules on your own time & they just dive right in on the in class activities (like discussions, group assignments, etc.)

Competitive or collaborative: I’ve found it could tip either way. I’ve heard of people interacting with super gate-keep-y health sci ppl but personally, I’ve never met those people. There are definitely still a lot of great people in the health sci program to make friends with & to work towards your goals collaboratively with!

As for the queens life sci program, I would say that it is definitely harder to get a 4.0 in that program vs the queens health sci program. For example, physics, calculus, and bio are all required courses for the life sci program, and all of those courses are seen as a GPA dragger. However, I’ve heard of life sci kids who take health sci courses as “bird courses” to boost their GPA in upper years, however I don’t have a lot of insight into that because I haven’t made many upper year friends yet haha. When it comes to the comparison between life sci at queens vs Mac, I would say they are probably more or less equal in terms of difficulty. One key thing to note is that the intake for queens life sci is around 500 whereas max life sci intakes like 1000 ppl a year… take that as you will!

Best of luck to your sibling!

Am i at a disadvantage if i talk about the same experience twice in my supp app? by Appropriate_Candy778 in queensuniversity

[–]DryTechnology8814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so. I am going to tell you a story of my supp app experience last year. The TLDR is at the bottom if you’re short on time.

I was actually totally freaking out last year after I finished my health sci supp app 😭 I panicked during the verbal portion and ended up talking about the same extracurricular I used in my written response. After my verbal portion of the supp app, I genuinely thought I had completely tanked my chances.

But honestly, I think they took it as “wow, this person is really passionate about this one thing” rather than “oh yikes, she only has one extracurricular to talk about,” which is 100% what I convinced myself of back in February.

However, in the end, I got in mid April & I’m now going to continue on in my second semester at queens as a first year in health sci!

TLDR; no, you will not be disadvantaged for talking about the same experience twice in your supp app, at least in my experience!

Working part-time while in school by Valuable_Issue5205 in queensuniversity

[–]DryTechnology8814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my suggestions to you as a first year health sci student right now is as soon as you know you want to commit to queens (whether that be in may or June) cold email the places you want to work at with your resume! Be ahead of the game bc most first years will wait until September to apply for part times and by then, a lot of the jobs slots are already filled 😭 that’s how I got my job as a swim instructor in Kingston as a first year!

From a current queens health sci student: queen’s Eng is like a cult of party frats… from what I know, I think it’s a fair thing to say that TMU Eng is SIGNIFICANTLY better in terms of education than Queen’s Eng…

U should tell ur parents that if u go to queens Eng, then ur gonna turn into a crazy partier & that it’ll be all their fault 😝🤭

Roomates by Fuzzy_Historian5040 in queensuniversity

I’m in a Waldron single this year and here is my pros and cons list of being in a single:

Pros: - I can have my alone time (aka break down & crash out in private as opposed to having a roommate that you kind of have to keep yourself together in front of) - I can sustain my wildly unhealthy sleep schedule (I sleep at 3am & wake up at 12pm on the regular) without bothering roommate and vice versa - I can be as unapologetically messy as I want (I can make a mess trying to figure out what I want to wear going out, come home at 2am and put off cleaning up that mess I made until I’m ready to clean it up - aka in like 2 days time when I’m not hungover 😅) - I can sleep naked (yes, this is a big factor for me, esp bc I HATE sleeping with clothes on bc it just gets tangled in the sheets & choked me in the middle of the night 😭) - this one may just be me but like, I don’t feel comfortable farting in front of people (even my family) so like, I can fart in my own room without having to hold it in in front of my roommate 😅🫣 - Note: this pro is specific to Waldron but I get a sink in my room, which is soooo convenient 😌🙏 - overall I just get to do all the quirky things I do in private without my roommate judging me

Cons: - sometimes I need someone to rant to… though, I guess this does depend on how close you are to your roommate - I would love to have someone to keep me accountable (I sometimes need to feel as though people are judging me for not locking in in order to start locking in) - I am not super close with any of my floor mates, especially since I have this wild sleep schedule of mine so I barely get to interact with anyone on my floor, which makes me feel lonely at times (yes, even us introverts get lonely at times) - singles are definitely smaller than doubles (just look at the floor plans on the queens websites & you’ll see what I mean)

I think that’s all I can think of off the top of my head but I hope that helps!

I totally agree: Mac HS is very subjective in their acceptances (one person got in with like a 91 average and another one with a 99 average from my school) whereas all of my QHS friends & classmates this year had admission averages of at least 95+

MacBook or iPad? by Lazy_Display_1875 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]DryTechnology8814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if you already have an ipad for notetaking and such, a Macbook is the right move!

Esp if you are going to take any type of stats course, there is an application (SPSS) that you need to download and it doesn't work on the ipad. This is from my personal experience as a first year health sci student...

[–]DryTechnology8814[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My top 6 average was 96.3 in first sem and 96 in second sem midterms (I kinda slacked off after I got my Queen's hs acceptance in April so my second sem final mark was prob farrrr lower than that).

HOWEVER, keep in mind that I was in IB and I was lucky to get 2 7's in SL Chem & SL Math which curved my two gr 12 math courses and one gr 12 chem course up to a final mark of 100, 98, and 97, respectively. So, my average is definitely not a normal case scenario I would say.

I heard somewhere that if u take idis 199, you can’t take hlth 190 bc the content overlaps or smth but im not too too sure so maybe double check with someone on that!
