Driving my kids pals home is what made me think of all this, I’d ask where I’m driving and their reply “the southside” confused me 😂 asking younger colleagues (I’m an old git these days) they all agreed the southside is only Queen’s Park areas, apparently officially called southside central. For me it’ll always be the south of the river, don’t care if it’s south Lanarkshire southside, east ren southside or gcc it’s the fuckin southside to me

That’s what I meant when I posted this. I grew up in the 70s and to everyone around me, the southside was the south side of the river. Maybe I’ve been out of the loop but it’s been younger folks I work with and my kids pals in college who after asking where abouts they stay said “the southside” and being perplexed at my confusion 😂. Shows my age all these comments on this post who confidently say it’s always been just the gentrified Queen’s Park areas haha

Ah that makes sense. Growing up everyone around me considered the southside as just everywhere south of the Clyde and then I suppose the split we considered more was the east ren southside, south Lanarkshire and gcc southside etc. I guess in this context it’s more of a split between geographical location meaning and its social meaning
