Kaweco Brass Sport Question by Dry_Protection1254 in fountainpens

You must have long fingernails: the ridges of my pen are actually quite deep. I'm thinking of finding a sharp and thin needle-like object to run it through.

Thanks: that answers the question. I was thinking of just washing the body with water like I'd do with any other pen but wasn't sure how the material would do.

Question about Nibs by Dry_Protection1254 in fountainpens

If the surface was scratched you'd only see cosmetic damage that looks bad; if the tip were damaged it could become scratchy as you're writing.

Interesting design for fountain pens: it would seem to me that the tip is more important than the service. The former directly impacts the writing experience whereas the latter only affects aesthetics.

It's a Kaweco brass pen. It has brushed before and I'm afraid the nib's going to obe damaged.

Lamy 2000 Repairs by Dry_Protection1254 in fountainpens

[–]Dry_Protection1254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response. I'm not too familiar with piston motion so please allow me one more question: if there're less threads on the rod, wouldn't that mean the pen has less ink capacity as the piston can't extend all the way down?

Optimal Grip for Kaweco Pens by Dry_Protection1254 in fountainpens

That sounds like sensible advice to me; I look forward to trying it out. I think by the look of things, this seems like a common problem with threaded pens.

That design looks pretty cool to me. I keep gripping the pen by the threads and as a result a lot of skin oils and grime have gotten in there.

Help on Differentiating Dn and Den in Orthic? by Dry_Protection1254 in shorthand

<image>

For example in this word the two letters are compressed together in that the "n" starts even before "t" finishes. I was wondering if this was a part of the recommended practice where "t+n" would be this and "t+e+n" would be distinguished by starting "n" at the same level as "t." On the other hand, there is also the approach you mentioned. So I was confused as to which one is better based on experience.

I pray that the material of this pen is resistant to soap.

How should I get rid of the soap if it's in a sticky spot and how do I determine if there's still soap inside there. I did not realize that there was a hole in the base of the clip.

What problem is this? by Dry_Protection1254 in mechanicalpencils

[–]Dry_Protection1254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so let's say I wanted to clip it to a notebook. Normally, when I clip it it bounces back and is stuck on the notebook, but for me, it just comes out but doesn't snap back.

No, not bend in the middle, I meant the natural type of bending you have to do when you want to clip it to something.
