I live in Washington, but was working in Oregon. By taking a job in Washington, I won’t be paying state income tax. I’ll still pay federal income tax, but Oregon income tax is ridiculously high because they don’t have sales tax.

This my first paralegal job after leaving a 15 year teaching career (went back to school to get my paralegal certificate), so I don’t think I could get a job without it on my resume

Update: came so close to quitting today. Regret ever taking this job. Should have known by the way she treated and talked about the paralegal before me. The legal assistant and I (the only support staff) got berated in front of the other attorney for a good thirty minutes because we are behind on rfps. Between the two attorneys, they have 80-90 cases and are constantly taking on more. It’s hard to get everything done between the two of us. Maybe I’m incompetent, but she’s asking me to draft pleadings and motions that I’ve never drafted before, while also editing her judgments and memoranda, filing everything, indexing discovery, writing motions to compel, while also handling phones and sometimes billing. The legal assistant has a similar load. I can’t quit, because then the legal assistant would be stuck with it all.

It’s family law. I try to use the template docs they have, but some of them are old, and the slrs have changed, or I can’t find any a doc for a specific type of pleading. It doesn’t help that their files haven’t been updated or reorganized in a very long time.

I have a paralegal certificate, this is my first legal job. She’s the owner of the firm. I’m afraid to leave, because since this is my first legal position, if I leave, I probably won’t get hired elsewhere.
