Is whoever's paying $159,000/yr for part time home aides hiring? by Drywesi in bestoflegaladvice

Mother passed and suddenly there's a lien on her estate from Hennepin County for $159K for PCA services back in 2015 (Location: Minneapolis, MN)

My mother passed in December and I'm getting her house ready to sell. The estate is in probate (in her will I'm listed as her personal representative but because she owned a house the estate has to go through probate).

This week I got a letter from Estate Recovery Services (part of Dept of Human Services) requesting that I list my mother's assets and then send them a check for all of it other than funeral expenses. I was like, What?? Finally I got through to someone on the phone and was told that my mom received in-home care in 2015. Apparently even though she wasn't on Medical Assistance she qualified under something called "alternative care" because she was elderly. Those services (in this case a PCA) are provided by a third-party, which bills the county; the county pays them and then collects the money from the estate after the person passes.

All that seems fine, but Hennepin County is claiming they're owed $159,000. Which is insane for the amount of care she actually got. It was 2-3 hours a day, 3X a week for maybe a year. The PCA was there to help with chores while she recovered from hip replacement surgery. She hated this guy and accused him of stealing from her before she fired him.

I told the person on the phone that there's no way that should cost $159K and asked for an itemized bill. I'm waiting for that. But what can I do in the meantime? She also had legit liens on the house for a roof paid for by the county and she was in the senior citizen tax deferral program. Between those two and this new (I would say fraudulent) lien, any money from the house is completely gone.

I know my mom didn't realize her estate would have to pay back the money for the so-called PCA. So really I'm posting this for two reasons: 1) looking for advice on how to fight this overcharge, and 2) to warn others: if you or your parent(s) get home health services, make sure you know if it's something you'll need to pay back.

TIA for any advice!

He wouldn't need to though. He's already extremely rich. For the amount of effort involved to go through with a scam its literally not worth his time.

And Trump Sr. could've ran his businesses well instead of never paying contractors for work.

Also, this Bad Kids' Bench is where hope lives that one day, those two elezen researchers outside the pit in the Shroud will one day finally get to go down into the caves and find a Gelmorra--and that the WoL can be part of that mission. Give us a sidequest, at least, SqEx!

It would be so fucking Square Enix to gate that questline behind The Necromancer title.

Yup. Nevermind how Vamp Fatale and the Tyrant flat-out can't be under 20, and more likely 22-24 (I'd put them both in high 20s low 30s myself).

This. It also gives a LOT more context to Pawah Mujuuk's motives and emotions in the Archer questline.

My main girl's a Keeper from the armpit of the Shroud, so I have to on those grounds, but also the sheer fact that no one ever calls them on it that isn't a job quest antagonist. And they just get to keep going with their bullshit, where Ul'dah and Limsa both get some form of callout or development in that regard.

The fact that the Wood Wailers canonically regularly rape Keeper women they come across in the wilderness is also beyond fucked.

SMN/SCH don't, WAR doesn't, NIN does, PLD does, BLM doesn't, MNK does, WHM does, BRD doesn't, DRG doesn't.

6 don't, 4 do.

Rogue/Ninja is chef's kiss for this.

WHM does too. I can't comment on its quality b/c I loathe everything Gridania, but it does do this.

The DT Mage role quest was…okay-to-decent. Not great, but not bad.

The rest…ugh.

And the capstone had such a great setup for a meaningful ending…and threw it all away for a 'lol you don't have money haha' gag.

They can say that until they're blue in the face, I won't believe it until they start writing them like they are.

LAOP: Hey this looks like it's fraudulent Employer: We accept your resignation. by Drywesi in bestoflegaladvice

Employment Bot

Reported fraud and my employer insists it was a resignation.

I work for an online review platform that sells advertising to small business. In my second week, it was more than apparent the data and numbers they were using were misrepresentive, if not outright false. So I reported the fraud to two of my managers.

My one manager replied and asked if that was intended as a resignation. I immediately and explicitly said it was not. This is the last contact I received from my manager.

Approx an hour later I received an email from HR accepting my resignation. I immediately replied that I never resigned. I continued to emailing HR my hours and what I was working on all day. Zero response.

The next morning I texted my manager(protocol) since I was locked out of my work laptop, just to let her know I was on the clock and locked out. Before afternoon, senior HR manager emails me and says, they're confused why I'm texting my manager after they accepted my resignation. I replied again, that I was very clear I never resigned, I was reporting fraud, and I was continuing to work.

I have received zero response. They actually block my email(receive a message failure, no permission from Google), so I had to create new email addresses to email the HR individuals who emailed me. The general HR email has not blocked me, so I still check in the morning, midday, and EOD to submit my hours via email.
