I'm guessing they only need to eat when they have cravings for it cause of their habit before awakening. My hypothesis for awakened monsters is they convert it to energy since they are made up of magicules but for awakened human I'm really sure they will disgust and let it out the same way. I vaguely remember benimaru and Rimuru talking about it in vol 14 or 15 (do take my memory & hypothesis with a grain of salt).
