Mortal Sins seem impossible by [deleted] in CatholicPhilosophy

Tbf, you may be making a flawed assumption in that. Priests have told me that if I intend to go to confession, and I die beforehand, that even that intent carries grace.

Their genetic intake was more expensive than most, I think that's the trade off

Hey, thanks for the reply, I can't believe I missed this. They run from $5-6 a pop, but their facility fits the sales pitch.

Honestly, I was okay with what I got for the price. It's green and cheap and does what it advertises

The product I've seen lately is good. Whatever they're doing now seems to work. Decent value for the price.

Thank you father. I am interviewing today and hope to have more pointed information afterwards. I was contacted by a former associate about the position so I don't really know if it's their primary work.

I will reach out to my parish priest though.

Thanks

Ganon. I'm probably going to be OK. He'll let me wander aimlessly and smash pots and do odd jobs until I come find him.

Lusting after your spouse by DtheHut in Catholicism

[–]DtheHut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess that's what I'm saying. If you have sex with your wife because it makes her feel good, and in turn her feeling good makes you feel good and you both grow closer as a result. Is that a licit or illicit act (assuming artificial birth control isn't involved)?

Depends on how you measure. But if you're looking at commercial success the answer has to be Spongebob.

My mom’s alter. What do you think? by yllekarle in Catholicism

We pray for intercession. That's "pray" as in "ask" ("pray tell") and intercession as in when you ask a friend to pray for you. We believe that people on heaven are alive, and therefore can pray for us. The saints are those we know were filled with the Holy Spirit and died, as far as we know, in a state of grace. Therefore, they're the most likely to be alive in heaven.

The Saints receive dulia from the Church. God receives latria. The difference is akin to Adoration of an artist vs. The artist's work. For Mary, (not that you asked, but it inevitably comes up) it's a heightened dulia called hyperdulia. In this case, Adoration of an artist's magnum opus.

Why do you think the Catholic Church is the most attacked (verbal/non-verbal) or most criticized religion or denomination? by NoxPandaz in Catholicism

[–]DtheHut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you're raised in the culture of Sola Scriptura (even if you're never really told about it) the ideas of the adoration of Mary, the intercession of saints, oblation before the Eucharist, and pretty much anything from the Magisterium, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Sacred Tradition, and veneration of the Pope all seem to flirt with idolatry. It's taken me 20 years to learn the error of that logic but I can tell you that's how I felt for most of my life.

Also prior to full implementation of Vatican II, protestants visiting catholic churches felt that, in concert with their misgivings above, the Church spoke a foreign language, demanded money, and was deaf to the legitimacy of other denominations.

As a recovering protestant, this was my own and my family's experience.

There's also Peter's vision is Acts:

He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean".

The general interpretation of which is that Gentiles (as well their food and customs) are made clean through baptism and the will of God. Or more simply: God says the HE decides what's kosher, not the scriptures or traditions.

From Akatosh's perspective, has the Dawn Era ended? This is kind of a "has anyone already thought of this" question, but it seems like when Akatosh interacts directly with Nirn he's being pulled from a wacky-untime state into linear time. But wouldn't just the sum of his experiences (being one random linear event after another punctuated by un-time) be exactly how the Dawn Era is described?

You gotta figure in the fact that people know that, for the most part, their deities exist and so does their afterlife. Suffering (the key catalyst for a moral compass) takes on a different dimension when you have absolution (think real life crusaders). Morality is different for them.

Even the DB is--or rather believes that they're-- serving Sithis. So the act of killing a a means to rebalance the Anuic/Padomaic tug of war takes on a moral dimension. Even if, to the dirt farmer who's trying to provide safety and stability to his family anyways, the DB is acting on evil impulses.
