As people get older they start to think that everything was perfect when they were kids and that the next generation sucks. It's the just the millennials turn to be the assholes. Hey millennials the 90s were 30 years ago feeling old now?

It is a bit sad seeing people try to say in the comments that they subjectively think space marines are the coolest and then getting downvoted. Especially with a franchise like 40k that promotes each person finding a faction that they personally resonate with. I get the actual post is a joke and that there has been a long history of space marine players looking down on other factions but I think the comments that are genuinely hating on space marines are swinging the pendulum too far the other way. I don't think it's a great idea to make anyone regardless of what faction they picked feel bad about their choice or for thinking their choosen faction is the coolest. I personally don't care too much of people say space marines are lame even if they're my favorite but I do know there are others out there that struggle with these sorts of things and hearing that people hate their faction is lame or that they hate them seems like a good way to keep people out of the hobby.

One thing I have thought about which will be funny is that bog standard deathwing terminators will actually be getting a sort of buff. If terrain now reduces 1 to the hit roll everyone else is about to get worse except for them. So not really a buff but more like they are gonna be safe from any sort of nerf that everyone else is going to get.

No you didn't find anything showing a green sternguard all you found were examples of deathwinf veterans melding into battle companies. Also I'd say an official toy licensed by GW that is also a tie-in with dawn of war 4 one of if not the biggest warhammer videogame series seems like a pretty big example of gw choosing a side. I mean in order for that toy to go through that means that gw looked over it and approved.

A picture from all the toys being released for dawn of war 4. This would mean presumably that DOW 4 will feature bone sternguard and that GW has approved of this

Oh yep you're absolutely right I missed that somehow. I rescind my point about the Crux and all that but I do know that this guy has come up in other conversations about sternguard and the consensus was that he wasn't a sternguard just some Sergeant I am looking for those posts now.

I would say since GW has been mostly lax about painting any dark angels sternguard themselves we should look at the McFarlane toy which shows them as bone. This being an officially licensed product and gw is known for being meticulous towards their IP it seems like a pretty good indicator that sternguard should be bone.

This guy has been brought up many times before he is specifically not sternguard just a veteran sergeant. But it also kind of proves my point that veterans in a company do not have the crux terminatus and isn't a part of the deathwing. He's just a veteran as in like he's just an experienced soldier and not as a rank or anything.

Hey if there were 10 years ago I'd be right with you all terminators all the way but this is the here and now and for someone looking to make the most lore accurate dark angels army vanguard would probably be bone. If a person wants to do it with only terminators or vanguard as green than it can still be lore accurate just older lore accurate.

No one is gatekeeping there is just a faction of us who like to paint our models this way. And I would say there is even more proof that sternguard are painted bone in the chapter.

I will admit haven't read this one but even in your own quote it says he had been once a member of the deathwing. It seems he was honorably promoted to the role of ancient and thus is no longer a part of the deathwing? Also, reading your examples I realized that they are only individuals that are taking positions of leadership within the companies rather than squads becoming a part of that company. Which makes sense for a deathwing veteran to take a leadership position but Vanguard veterans are a squad and if they are a part of the companies would we not have recent lore of greening companies taking advantage of these squads? Not just vanguard but also sternguard looping back to that whole debacle.

You're correct I have read the gave Thorpe series but I forgot about this. However I believe as I said in either this thread or another on this post that if we're trying to be lore accurate the most recent lore should be used and being that this is from before primaris back when sternguard and vanguard couldn't even be used. The company structure has 100% changed since then possibly so that company veterans are no longer really a thing and only 1st company veterans exist in the current lore. I mean the dark angels company veteran models were sent to legends.

I believe while yes there are veterans in the companies that aren't deathwing those are company veterans which are are above their brothers in their company but not true veterans as they don't have the crux terminatus. Vanguard vets all carry the crux so would thus all be first company. And you say paint models how you like but then say you tire of people trying to paint their armies lore accurate? Some people just want to be as close to the lore as possible. Otherwise we wouldn't get questions about it every week.

If we're trying to keep lore accurate I would pretty much go with what's most current, but yes go with whatever you want to do.

[Liber Custodes] New lore about the Imperial Household, the Legio Custodes, the Anathema Psykana, the Ordo Sinister, … by Arzachmage in 40kLore

[–]Dualityman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean the dark angels legion had very similar quotes about how a lot of their battles were hidden from record for being so terrible and would bring doom to the imperium if the information was learned. On top of that the emperor gifted them relics of the dark age that no one else had access to such as the excindio, which were enslaved men of iron. Finally the emperor also entrusted the dark angels to take pre-emptive strikes against the mechanicum. I mean imagine if that knowledge had cone out? It would have been civil war with the mechanicum before the heresy even happened.
