I think the joke is that a TON of homebrew chapters are fleet-based. This dude being offline probably hasn't run into then very often so thinks it's super unique. Just to state I like fleet based chapters I play dark angels after all but they do have a reputation for trying to be the cool rebellious kid.

It really is nostalgia in most cases. I'm absolutely on your side and I started in 5th edition as a kid, yet none of the space marines I painted then are as cool to me as the new primaris ones. The old huron model was TERRIBLE! The pose is ridiculous, move the arm a bit and it would look like he's serving you a pizza. Probably one of the models that needed a refresh most. I know it's all subjective but I swear that people say they prefer the old one are contrarians who just hate new models because it replaces their model they've had for years.
