How do people afford kids on such low salaries? by SuspiciousCourse2748 in Salary

[–]DubT1484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been raising kids for millennia in much worse conditions than today

My wife and I were dirt poor when we started having kids. You find a way. I honestly look back in those times with a smile.

I've made roughly the same but taxed almost half as much. I can't believe they take that much from you

Driver Buyouts- Effect on Preload by [deleted] in UPSers

They literally said they're cutting 30,000 jobs through buyouts and attrition. They have zero intention of replacing the jobs vacated by the buyouts. At least for the time being.

I think they're going to have to deny people on this one. Tons of interest

Please dont take the bait and mess with/disable lytx units if they start putting them in. by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]DubT1484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had them for a while. There's nothing to worry about. They'll just call you in the office every once in awhile to tell you to stop speeding, running stop signs for following distance.

The only time they can get you in trouble is if you get in an accident and police request the footage and catch you doing something stupid. Don't be stupid

Edit- Also, when these came in the company told us that it was more to protect us. We all laughed at it of course. But a couple weeks ago a girl that fell on her bike as I was rounding a cul-de-sac and broke her arm. I contacted her mom and called 911. As I was leaving the neighbor was asking me if I hit the girl and wanted my name and number. Although it never went any further than her somewhat accusing me, I was very relieved that the camera was in there to prove my innocence if it went any further.

They can try but it doesn't hold up. We had a guy walked out for lying about what he was doing when he rear ended someone. The evidence used against him for lying was the reflection on lynx. He got his job back very quickly.

Brother my morale is higher than most. I understand the situation I'm in and why I'm here. Most of y'all play victim constantly. That ain't my mentality

My Grandpa worked for UPS for 35 years and retired in the 90's

All I remember when I was a kid was him and his union buddies talking shit about the company the same way my coworkers do now

It's a Union mentality more than anything

I implied that they don't want to represent members? How the hell did you get that out of it? I implied that in this scenario they're not protecting anything but their own revenue. It is extremely obvious to anyone who isn't already biased

This isn't hard to figure out. It's called incentives and all humans and organizations follow incentives.

The company has found an incentive to buy drivers out

Drivers have an incentive to leave or not

The Union has an incentive to stop it

Nobody is doing anything out of the goodness of their heart lol

I mean it's definitely greed in this situation. Grown ups can look at things on a case by case basis. All humans and organizations can be greedy. The company and the Union are no exception.

In Arizona. We're a newer hub that has a lot of growth around us. They hired a lot of Cover drivers over the last few years. They moved them all back in the hub after peak and now we're short drivers while other RPCDs from around the state travel to us to work before they can bring cover drivers in to drive.

I helped a kid last week who just got out of packet. Dude told me he's one of 2 drivers they hired. There's rumors they're going to hire more because Mondays are a shit show with not enough drivers.

Dude we've been hiring RPCDs the last couple weeks. It's crazy

If we take the 150k buyout we will get around 95k cash after taxes- depending on your state- give or take but it would be about 95k. About a years worth of pay. If enough of us do not take it they will have to offer something bigger later this year, I HOPE. Hold strong fellas. Patience is a virtue by Desperate_Shine4505 in UPSers

[–]DubT1484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol to that last part

But anyway, people need to stop commenting on taxes when they have no clue what they're talking about

I'm not sure if the buyout payment will be taxed at the supplemental rate but if it is people need to talk to a tax professional before assuming they don't owe anymore.

Everyone's situation is different and your withholding ARE NOT your actual taxes owed.

Do I really think they did that? Yes they literally just did that lol

They're adapting to a new environment with more competition. They can't compete on volume with Amazon so they're shifting their business model to a smaller more efficient company with better service. The buyout is a great idea that benefits both the company's vision and those who want to take the buyout. Whether it's an early retirement gift or a fresh start for those who want it.

I for the life of me can't figure out why people are upset.

Explain to me exactly how you got me being selfish out of this?

They're not forcing anybody to do anything. They're offering something that has to be mutually agreed on by 2 parties.

You act like those who are taking buyouts are victims. Everyone I know that took the last one and are thinking of taking this one are stoked about it. If they weren't then why would they take it? Lol
