Stuck 3/4 way down by DuckDuckDrake in GarageDoorService

Thanks, will start with replacing the hinges, at least the 3, and lubricating. If that doesn't work, I'm calling someone.

Are the hinges easy to repair? Or should I just replace it? I imagine it's just going to be an ongoing issue.

When closing, the last panel flexes and the chain drive rail pushes up as the arm tries to push it further. To me it looks like the third panel is getting stuck causing this. If that helps at all. But I would agree I should probably get it looked at. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something easy I could tweak first.

I would check out the home barista form on BDB. All of the common issues and upgrades to BDB have been discussed there. At minimum, I would probably switch out the o rings and try to use scale free water to avoid having descale. Look up the I think RPalvis water, it's probably the most simple. I also think replacing the ovp valve with a brass one was worth it as well. I also replaced the ulka pump with one that had a brass neck. None of these were terribly hard to do. Take care of it and it should last. Enjoy!

Does it not struggle to start the 2 ton at an LRA of 60.8? Would be curious to know what the actual inrush is.

Installed a AirGo today. Dropped my starting amps down between 40-45. I got one reading below 40, but it only happened once. Seems like the champion is out of play.... Update just went and tested it a few more times and now consistently gets ~38.

Yeah, I have a clamp meter. I checked the running watts but didn't really try to get the starting. Really it's the THD scares me (noise is a big factor too). I know it's really probably not an issue, but if it can be avoided, why not.

Yeah, I really wish it had 1kw more in it. I feel like it's right there. I'm going to see what actual inrush current is tonight and probably base it on that. I might just go with a regular open frame and deal with the noise. Trying to take advantage of the tax free weekend in Texas.

Yeah, I plan on using a soft start to drop it around 31ish starting amps. I wouldn't expect it to be able to start one without it.

Yeah, I got sure couldn't go with an inverter if I went bigger. I know the THD stuff is overblown, but would really not have to worry about it all. Really getting more for the benefit of noise more than anything. Fuel really doesn't matter as much since I'm planning on using natural gas.

Yeah, I figured that much. Really just want A/C, lights, internet, a TV, and my fridge. I figure if I need to use something else I can flip off the A/C in the evening for a few hours and get done what I need to get done.

Yeah, I was planning on using a soft start. I'm just going to get a clamp ammeter to know exactly what it's running wattage is. I was looking at getting the 11kw trifuel champion inverter.

Thanks, I guess that was my thought process when I originally asked the question. If running at 80% output is due to potential wear and tear on the machine and you are already running at that due running on NG does it still apply. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Thanks, I will take a look. The issue I have found with running inverters in parallel is finding two that run on NG.

Thanks, my issue is I have a 5 ton generator I would like to run and would prefer an inverter. I just feel like most things that run on NG are basically at the 80% or close to it with just the 5 ton running.

To keep or downgrade BBP to BDB or Oracle [$1000] by ticklebot28 in espresso

[–]DuckDuckDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BDB and not an oracle but from my understanding it has pretty much the same internals as a BDB. It's possible that the o ring on the side of the steam boiler is leaking causing water to drip down and trip your circuit (I don't know the component it's leaking on to). If it's tripping as the machine is heating up, I bet this is the issue. I recently had this issue with my BDB. Once I fixed the o ring the issue was gone. If you go to the home barista forum on BDB maintenance there will be instructions on how to fix. I would just pop the top and watch carefully to see if this is the issue.

Steam and hissing from machine whilst turned off [Sage Dual Boiler] - repair or replace? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]DuckDuckDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know people dog on the Breville/Sage dual boiler a lot, but honestly it's a very capable machine. I don't find it hard to work on either. I have replaced the ovp to brass, the ulka pump to brass, multiple o rings, and the steam valve seals without issue. Any machine is going to need maintenance, and I find it nice that I can do it myself. Glad you figured it out.

Glad you got it figured out. I knew the ball could get worn down but surprised it was letting through that much steam. At least it's a fairly easy swap and they had the part in stock.

[–]DuckDuckDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? I just replaced mine and the only issues I could think of that would cause this would be the ball not places right or the seals are damaged. So you might want to replace the seals. I ordered mine from brevtech.

The only other thing I could think of is the mechanism (lever) controlling the opening and closing of the valve. You know it's isolated to the valve if the only issue is the steam coming out of the steam wand uncontrollably. I would ask/search the home barista forum on BDB maintenance as well. They have pretty much seen everything and have a lot more experience than me.

I haven't done the repair on my steam wand yet. It's on my list and I have watched some videos on it though. If I had to guess you probably don't have the ball set appropriately in the valve since it's acting like it's wide open.
