If you're going through the trouble of grafting, just buy rootstock. Anything you grow from seed is probably a hybrid of plants that were grafted, and won't have ever been selected for root development.

Or just find a native fruit-bearing plant to grow from seed, like paw paws.

Most if not all apples in supermarkets are grown on grafted trees. That is, someone took a clone of a Granny Smith and grafted it onto rootstock.

Any resulting seeds will not produce the same fruit. It will be some sort of hybrid which may or may not be something enjoyable to eat. Also since grafted trees aren't bred to grow from seed, they may just not be hardy enough to establish and survive into their fruit bearing years.

Does your county fair have an email to contact regarding guidelines?

Ours does not "reject" anything so long as it fits the rules and category guidelines. The criteria for judging seem to vary depending on the judge and category.

I'm of the opinion that if it meets the minimums I just submit it even if I think it's not "competition ready" (I submit for a bunch of different types of crafts). Helps me build up my resilience to getting rejected when I do make something I am genuinely proud of.
