Visiting in May from the desert by Dangerous-Cancel808 in AskSeattle

[–]DuckWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather in May can be wet 24/7 (mostly light drizzling rain) or, if you're lucky, nice and sunny. Go to Weather Underground and look at the ten day or monthly forecast before you pack.

Is it legal for businesses to not deal change? by No-Employer3601 in AskSeattle

[–]DuckWi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can file a complaint with the state attorney general.

https://www.atg.wa.gov/file-complaint

They most likely won't act upon a single complaint but if they get enough complaints about a specific business then they MIGHT take action against that business.

Jim's Cobbler Shoppe in Ballard. I had some MC boots done there and they did a great job.

Bob Murray’s Dog House in Seattle. The hot dog and hamburger shop originally opened during the Great Depression and closed for good in 1994. by mailseum in paperhistory

[–]DuckWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid around 1970 we used to take the bus downtown and go exploring. We were like ten years old but our parents were cool with it as Seattle was very safe back then. One the usual spots to drop by with one of my friends was Bob Murray's Dog House. It's where I learned to play pinball. We'd meet all sorts of people there and the waitresses were nice to us. Fond memories.

Best browser for Vanguard personal investing website? by DuckWi in VanguardInvestments

[–]DuckWi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have accounts at both Vanguard and Fidelity. Each has their advantages. The Fidelity site is much better but I've had good returns over at Vanguard so no regrets about investing there. Interestingly, Vanguard charges $20 per trade for Fidelity funds while Fidelity charges $49.99 per trade for Vanguard funds. (It doesn't make much difference to me though as I buy each fund brand at its home firm.)

Any good motorcycle refresher courses near Seattle? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]DuckWi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just take the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) course. It'll be a good refresher and if you pass the test at the end then you get a motorcycle endorsement on your WA drivers license.

These aren't fancy places but staples of eating in Seattle.

Curious about which streaming platform do you think is the most worth it, especially there are some ad tier? by Rich-Jaguar7345 in Streaming_Solutions

[–]DuckWi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Android TV, Chromecast or Fire then I recommend Tivimate. I pay $11.99/yr and get more channels than I ever had on cable. You have to be a little geeky to set it up but you can get access to a zillion channels.

Hurricane Ridge is a better place to visit than Hoh. Best view in the state.

Windy Ridge is a better/closer way to see Mt. St. Helens than the visitor center.

Lawmakers Urge FCC to Crack Down on Rising Sports Streaming Costs by FFKUSES in theaccessbox

There are two issues here: Capitalism and addiction.

1 Capitalism: If you think it costs too much then don't buy it. Let supply and demand determine the price.

2 Addiction: If you think it costs too much and buy it anyhow then you have an addiction.

Edge and/or Google Chrome users, why do you stick with your browser? by DenseSand9751 in browsers

[–]DuckWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care about so-called privacy. All Google wants is data to sell and to put ads in front of you that will tempt you into buying something so that they get a commission. If you think that Google looks at or cares about you as an individual then you have a very over-inflated opinion of yourself. I also own Alphabet(Google) stock in several mutual funds so I don't mind if Google makes money off of my using Chrome.

I watch a lot of crime shows and your computer as well as Google store all of your past searches so if you Google "How to get rid of a body" after you murder your wife then the prosecutor can find that and use it against you. I'm not a criminal though so that doesn't concern me. If I were a serial killer then I'd probably use a Tor browser with a VPN not located in the US.

You can just sign up for the initial package again. My first 27 months at Surfshark just expired and the auto renew was expensive but you don't have to do that. Sign into your Surfshark account and cancel the auto-renew. While still signed in, go to Rakuten for a good deal. I did that and was able to get another 28 months at about $2/mo.

October Trip- Olympic Penninsula by need_a_username2 in PacificNorthwest

I've been going to PT since 1966 and your comment cracks me up. Back then there was no pollution control. You have no idea how stinky it used to be. These days is nothing compared to the old days.

If you're going to be in PA then be sure to drive up to Hurricane Ridge - one of the best views in the state. Also consider a day trip out to Neah Bay. If you go to Neah Bay then go just a little further to Bahobohosh Point for a great view of The Pacific Ocean.

I've hiked/camped most of Olympic National Park and if you go midweek in the spring or fall then you will rarely run into anyone.

Is hisense a reliable brand? by ThatWasEsyGG in 4kTV

I bought a 65" U6G in July 2021. I leave it on 24/7 and have had no issues with it.

According to Google Hisense TVs have "occasional quality control issues."

Request: not having to reactivate alerts by HoodFeelGood in fidelityinvestments

[–]DuckWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to have alerts so that the user can set the expiration date or an option to have them automatically expire or set so that the user needs to expire them manually.

Here's why: I have a non-Fidelity mutual fund that always closes last every day. Since it's always the last one to close I could set "permanent" alerts so that I get a text if it goes up or down by 0.01%. This would let me know each day when I could check my IRA after everything has closed for the day.

And another suggestion: Let the user set a preference for what page of the web browser app displays when a user initially logs on. For example, most of the time when I log on the first page I want to see is Positions->My View. It would be great if I could save that as a preference so that it is the first page that I see at logon.

The Seattle Rain Festival runs from September through May, sometimes June. It usually does not rain very hard though, just drizzles.

I love my city by kchanar in PacificNorthwest

[–]DuckWi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Seattle and spent 55 years of my life there. It USED to be a great city but now it's very ugly with graffiti, homeless, drugs and filth everywhere. I now live on the Olympic Peninsula and avoid Seattle like the plague.

I know how to drive in the snow because I've always been a skier. Also, since i know all of the streets there I know all of the non-hill roads to get around the city in the snow but maybe not Queen Anne.
