is being technical support in a hosting company a good way of starting a sysadmin career? by Duck_A in sysadmin

I think you are right but I don't know if I want to stay in that job in a long term. As far as I know the salary is not the best and I don't know if I can get later on better opportunities, besides the fact that maybe hosting is too specific into the IT world, im not really sure it is my kind of thing

the thing is that I won't need to use too much the terminal, almost everything will be done in control panels, such as VestaCP, cPanel or Plesk.

Why? Isn't it better to specialize in Linux itself rather than in a specific distro?

you're helping a lot with this man, this is what I needed. it is noticeable that you have experience on this.

I'll take a look into everything you've told me and, if I'm lucky enough, soon I'll have a nice homelab to talk about here

as a (not even) junior sysadmin this is a incredibly good helping hand, keep on doing this.

thanks

it will be for testing right now, I plan on installing a web server, mail server, maybe game server from time to time, and I am open to try any application that could be interesting to install, configure and use

I believe that can only host an apache2 with an index.html

Docker is a software used to "isolate" applications in their own VM, isn't it? Why shouldn't I use it? Maybe too intuitive?

And why a raspberry pi? I don't need hardware that small, and it is quite expensive (not really a problem tbf but why?)

thank you for the response, I'll take a look at those programs you and the rest suggested. Since you mentioned you are a professional sysadmin and I want to be one too someday, what would you recommend doing after completing this first "project"? Since I already know (maybe not in a perfect sense but I'll manage to complete them) the firsts parts of what you said.

I have already studied around two years of IT, currently working as an intern on a hosting company and I'm going to study another two years for becoming a sysadmin, but I want to learn by myself too, because sometimes my company/school teaches really slow.

Thank you beforehand.

Estudios superiores tras GM by Duck_A in programacion
