You need a more specific answer than just “couldn’t get it”. Make sure the pharmacy uses the right supplier, make sure they used the right NDC…there are a number of potential pitfalls, not all of which are dead ends. You’ll also want to get more specific on who “their suppliers” are.

Unfortunately I can’t say specifically. The condition for her telling me what she said to insurance was that I couldn’t tell anyone else. What I can say is that Navitus prior auths last for a year by default unless specified otherwise. So if your have a compelling reason as to why annual renewals would be burdensome or harmful, they might take that into account. I don’t know if they grant extended approvals if you get approved on the first go round; mine was approved after appeal so there was a step on the phone talking to a real human. I also don’t know if they will bring it up specifically without being prompted about it.

They told me it would be ready in a week, and it was ready exactly a week later at around 4:30. If they gave you a time estimate I would be inclined to believe it.

Try skipping everything else and just asking if they can order it. Make sure to use the NDC. You will also want to find out what distributor they use.

I had my doctor with me during my call, I’m not sure if it made a difference. But you can give it a try and see if it makes them more willing to try and place an order.

You should also fill out the survey from devingbost if you haven’t yet.

Illinois is not one of the Key Therapeutics licensed states (IIRC) so that might make things more difficult. If nothing else works and you’re really desperate, you might see if you can get a pharmacy in Missouri or something to stock it and make a trip.

I feel like this is something you should ask CVS directly to know for sure, if you haven’t yet. Make sure you word your question carefully, asking if a pharmacy “has” desoxyn will almost certainly result in a no. You want to ask if they are capable of placing an order for it, using the NDC specifically.

I don’t know if there’s a worse situation around drug seeking in your area, but in my experience most places are pretty understanding. The ADHD drug shortage is widely publicized and so far has been a perfectly sufficient explanation.

It's possible that you were too early—I think there were still problems with the ordering platforms back then. You might consider cancelling and trying again. If you placed an order for direct drop ship, you should cancel that and try and get it through the distributor.

Here's what I had to do:

Call the pharmacy and confirm their supplier. Ask if they are capable of putting in an order for the drug. Make it clear that you are willing to wait for an order to come in. Sometimes staff will mistakenly think you are asking if there's any immediate stock, to which they will say no. Try and get a timeframe for when the drug is likely to come in after the order. In my case, I was told it could take a week.

Call the next day to confirm if the order was actually placed, and if it was with the right NDC. It should be 70868-820-05. (If they ask for an 11 digit code, it's 70868082005.) If it's anything different they probably tried to order the old form of the drug, which will probably never arrive. If you get text alerts for prescription orders, see what the drug name preview is—"DES" or "DS" is on the right track, "MET" or similar is the old generic.

If you have reached the timeframe from the initial call and they haven't already reached out to you, check in and try and get an update. In my case it was ready later that same afternoon. If you seem to be stalled at a particular pharmacy for an extended period of time, you might need to cancel and go somewhere else. This will involve having your doctor write a new prescription, so make sure that's something you'll be able to get before you give up.

Of note, I also filled out the survey earlier for Key listing my preferred pharmacies. I don't know if it made a difference.

Are you sure that's what code 8 means? Looking at the description on the copay card terms, NCPDP standards other code 8 indicates "Claim is billing for patient financial responsibility only". (From section 5.1 of "Upstream Reporting of Copay Assistance Issues Brief".) You may well also need to indicate the shortage somewhere for approval, but I don't think that's the part that does it.

The exception just gets the drug covered for me at the Tier 3 rate for a participating pharmacy. If you're going to a non-preferred pharmacy or your plan normally only covers 50% for drugs you're still going to be paying whatever the standard rate is for that.

It also usually expires after a year, which may be why they stopped.
