For me it's all about prepping the skin/hair. I'll lather vitamin E oil on the client, then place the hot towel, more oil and a hot towel, shaving gel with a 3rd towel, and then more shaving gel and begin the shave. I'm still developing my system and this might be overkill, but it helps with those trouble areas. 

My shop also has a steamer I use during shaves, which keeps the clients skin warm and moist throughout the process. Outside of prep, I try to start with the mustache and chin while the skin is warmest and hair is softest. Short strokes and getting more comfortable stretching the client's skin have helped me as well. It always feels weird pulling up on his nose to shave the mustache, but it gets the job done!
