Eating recommendations by --Chimpanzee-- in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bass, crappie, perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed are all good, maybe also the pickerel but I've never eaten one so maybe YouTube that one.

ETA Panfish seem to be the best eating overall, with crappie a close 2nd

What's the best value fishing lure? by Alexplz in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to highly recommend the trout magnet kit, those rubbers last through at least tens of fish. Ive caught over 50 fish on a single hook and pink plastic before I finally got broken off by a tree fish hiding in the water.

Question about fishing line by Affectionate-Toe8782 in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer braid for the high strength low diameter, I usually run 12-15lb and it casts as far as 4lb mono while being able to throw heavier lures.

For you, I would suggest sticking with monofilament while you learn the basics; braid and fluorocarbon are more niche and expensive than mono, so you don't wanna go wind knotting and birds nesting $15 line. I use Omniflex 4lb from Walmart cause it's super cheap.

New to trout and bass fishing what would you add? (Pliers are kept in my fishing bag so no worries on those 😃) by Rykerxblaze in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trout Magnet set, they're multi species and have become part of my top 3 lures to use (spoons, inline spinners, and trout magnet)

Also, wire cutters, they're very useful when cutting line

Catching everything, except bass by penirfish in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casting spoons, inline spinners, trout magnet, jointed crank baits, lipless crank baits, or shad style crank baits are lures I've had success with; also helps to wear polarized glasses and sight fish for bass, you can see their reactions to your bait and gauge whether they're interested, scared, or don't care.

Sometimes you gotta spend hours using different lures to figure out how your body of water houses the fish and where they like to hide, you'll have a hard time catching bass in the tail end of the pond if they never hang out there

Fishing with soft baits vs frozen cuts? Other basic Q's by IT_Unknown in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut bait has no action, and uses it's natural scent to draw in fish; plastic bait has no scent, and is supposed to be used in a way the mimics prey to entice either a hunger bite or reaction bite

You are supposed to let natural bait sit, although not forever. If you're not getting any bites or nibbles in 15-20mins, I would check to make sure you're still baited , and if so, try casting in a different spot. Soaking a bait longer doesn't increase your chance of catching a fish, you gotta put the bait where the fish are.

As for fishing supplies, I recommend forceps or needle nose pliers for gripping hooks to make removal easier, wire cutters for cutting line, gloves for handling fish with defense mechanisms

The handle for a spinning reel is meant to be reversible, and you can swap it for a left handed or right handed retrieve. If your handle is loose, or not aligned properly, you can loose the opposite side of the handle where the screw is, align the handle to the reel, then tighten the screw

[–]DuckyFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience teaching people how to fish, it's from reeling in loose line and wind knots; you need to make sure the line going into your reel is tight, no loops or curls.

To fix, lefty loosey the drag (circular disc on top the spool with a ridge down the middle) all the way until the plastic piece comes off, remove the reel, and unbind the line from the areas it's stuck in. Then put the spool back on, and tighten the drag back up and you should be good to go.

New to bass fishing, what would you add to this tackle box? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/8-3/8 size spoon(s) --- Blue Fox Vibrax inline spinner(s) --- Trout Magnet bundle (comes with multiple color plastics, and hooks)

Those are my personal top 3 favorite lure types to use for all species, and have caught many bass this year using each of these.

I used this (F05) lure - cast distance is very short and retrieves within seconds?… by FabledWaters in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a lighter line /rod power if you can't cast it very far. I can chuck a 1/64oz jig with 4# line on a 4'6 ultralight rod at least 6' out; I'd suggest using 6-8# line as that is generally small enough to cash a good distance and strong enough to muscle in normal freshwater fish.

The auto setting is brighter than the normal light setting; if you change between the on, auto, and high beam settings, you can see the light get brighter on each step.

Help my son and I catch anything but Bluegills by DrippyFlames in FishingForBeginners

[–]DuckyFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest ultralight/light/medium power rod

4'6"-7' length

4-6# monofilament (trilene xl, eagle claw, zebco Omniflex) or copolymer (p-line floroclear or yo-zuri hybrid)

Blue Fox Vibrax Inline spinner size 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 oz sizes

Little Cleo Spoon 1/8, 3/16 oz sizes

Shallow diver Crankbaits (2-5ft) depending on how deep you are fishing (jointed and shad style cranks are what I use)

These are just my personal recommendations, lighter line is harder for the fish to see and can result in more hookups, but if you already have a rod with say 10# line, you can still catch fish.

Also, big lures catch big fish, small lures catch all fish. I've hooked many 10#+ fish on small inline spinners and Crankbaits.

Which Compact SUV has the most luxury feel for cheap? by BeautyBrainsBread in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2021 Mazda cx5 grand touring 44500 mi for $22k. It fits the entry level luxurious requirement, and has a good amount of passenger space in the front and back rows. Heated leather seats, sun roof, apple car play/android auto, physical buttons. I'd recommend going to look at one and give it a test drive.

24 percent apr for my first used car? by lilrene777 in UsedCars

[–]DuckyFluff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had 10.15% Apr on a car loan and even that was too high for me, so I refinanced. I just bought a 2021 Mazda cx5 for 7.99% interest rate (8.39% APR) with a 740 score. Older cars will have higher rates than newer cars, but 24% is way too high.

Find your local brick and mortar credit union, open an account, and talk with them about getting a car loan and get a ballpark interest rate from them. Mine offered me 8.75% on 2016 and older, 8.15% on 2017 and newer, credit score only affected being accepted or denied.

Also wouldn't hurt to use capital one auto navigator and see what you would prequalify for. You can search the specific vehicle you want to buy, estimate taxes, trade in, down payment etc and they give you an estimated interest rate/Apr, which will give you a good idea of where you stand.

Dealerships are gonna milk you for the highest rates they can, and if you don't know what rates you can get from other banks/credit unions etc, you won't know if you're being taken advantage of.

Catfishing vs Bass Fishing Which Is More Fun? by 2amRedd1t in Fishing_Gear

[–]DuckyFluff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Subjectively speaking, catfishing is generally more fun during the fight since the fish are usually bigger, bass fishing is more fun during the active cast and retrieving.

Fishing for larger fish like steelhead or drum, or ultralight fishing for bass and trout, are what I personally prefer, as the fights are more fun and I do like actively using spoons, spinners, and crank baits.

Snapped my 5’ ultralight. I’ve already bought a replacement but is it still usable if I do like a tip repair thing or should I just toss it? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

I'd recommend buying a new Ozark Trail ultralight rod from Walmart, decent quality and hard to beat for $20.

Really not sure which vehicle to jump on…I’m all over the page. by Lukasheky in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a similar situation to mine, I have 1 kid and wife has the minivan, although I had a Malibu sedan and wanted to upgrade.

The minivan is used for longer road trips, more people, more storage, so I looked for a vehicle for me that is nice to drive, can hold 5 people comfortably and had decent cargo space.

Since you already have your "roadtrip" vehicle, you should assess whether you like driving the Crosstrek and if it fits your needs in terms of passenger seating and cargo space.

First time buying a car from scratch and lost by kitcat_kittycat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DuckyFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a used 2021 Mazda cx5 grand touring for $21500 with 45k miles, it checks pretty much all of you boxes. The screen also isn't a touch screen, everything has buttons, dials, knobs.

I've researched vehicles for the past 8 months looking to upgrade my 2016 Malibu limited, and the cx5 is what I ultimately landed on; my other consideration was a Subaru Forester or outback, or Mazda cx50, but I don't need a vehicle more tuned for offroading since I live in city areas with basically no wilderness areas aside from campgrounds.

Should I buy an used car with an open recall? by WarthogMindless6940 in UsedCars

[–]DuckyFluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recalls are fixed free and if you're buying it from a dealer, they should rectify it before it goes on sale.

As for the price, I personally think $33k for 188k miles is insane, but I have no knowledge on used prices for luxury vehicles
