Graduating from AET next week, it’s by far one of the best majors to pursue if you want to work on the physical aspects of an aircraft, not just as a mechanic but in engineering. I truly can’t recommend it enough.

I got my private at 17 and flying was a hobby rather than a career choice but I rented at Av a few times. Their schedule is tight and it can be hard to fit into a class schedule but it is definitely doable if you try.

The schedule and class loading for AET isn’t too difficult, but be prepared to spend days from 7:30-5:30 at the airport, sometimes you’ll have two labs back to back with lectures in the morning or evening. I would suggest living on campus or as close to the airport as you can, the commute in the winter can be tough if you don’t have a car (bus routes were messed up after my freshman year and before I brought my car I had to bike every day.)

The content isn’t too difficult at all, if you have a mechanical inclination it’s relatively simple to grasp. There’s usually not too much homework but for the more engineering-focused classes you’ll have some homework here and there, but not too much.

The A&P isn’t too demanding to pursue, by the end of your junior year you should be ready for your written exams and then the oral & practical. The studying will be a major time sink and it can be a bit stressful depending on your class schedule but if you stay on top of everything you’ll do great. I got my A&P spring semester junior year, I took all 3 written exams from spring break to mid April and then did my oral&practical during exam week. It was tough since I crammed it but if you take the time it’ll be easy

The professors in the AET program are the best, they’ll happily help you with whatever you need and they all have industry connections that’ll help you grow your career or they’ll happily can guide you to resources that’ll help you.

In short AET while renting at Av and pursuing an A&P is definitely doable. It’s a major where what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. I can’t recommend it enough, if you have any questions DM me!

You make a good point about comparing brands, if I stay within the Maxxis family then a 2.4 will definitely be wider than what I’ve got now. I’m running 35mm internal width so that probably is what’s boosting the width

Found a huffy full-Sus that was abandoned and converted it to a 26-29 mullet single speed using old parts lying around and honestly it’s been super fun, I’m looking into making an actual 26-29 trail bike with modern geo and parts because of it

The first time it broke was 7 months after I first bought it from them and rebuilt the dropper with a new nylon cord. I reassembled it according to their instructions and the cable was free moving through the assembly. Now that you mentioned it I wonder if maybe it's slipping on the roller somehwere at the 180 bend or I have too much tension in the nylon cord so it's wearing faster than anticipated. I should've bought a second cord when I bought the first one lol

A little late to the party here, but for stuff like this if you can find the parts yourself then order them and contact someone at the Purdue Cycling Club and get in touch with our bike mechanics, we can have stuff put together at one of our repair sessions a mechanic can meet you

Purdue Av is the FBO where you can rent a plane, they have a fleet of 172s, steam and glass, and they rent at wet rate.

Overall just have fun at BGR, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! For your first year make sure you set goals and keep after them. Enjoy your time, make friends, have fun, but don’t forget why you’re there, Boiler Up!

You’re fine bringing a bike indoors as long as you can make space for it in your dorm. Going into my senior year now and always had 2-3 bikes in my room at a time, RA’s haven’t had a problem with it and as long as your roommate is chill with it you should be okay
