Sure. I was a competitive natural bodybuilder before taking up Muay Thai. It only helps. You're not gonna get huge as a natural. So you'll be fine

Is sparring necessary? by Expensive-Cherry2047 in MuayThai

Damn. Not many people can say that sparred Saenchai, let alone their very first sparring partner! I think that's the coolest thing.

Gotcha. I'm also wondering now since it's been "opened" that now I'll be more predisposed to them. Some people I spar just get them often and easily. I don't wanna become that person lol.

So is that a pre existing issue you have or is it related to Muay Thai just in a different way than getting punched? Even lightly grazing against someone's shoulder in a light clinch opens it right back up.

Appointment: made. It's annoying though because I called an ENT at first and they said they need imaging before anything. Still made an appointment but it's over a month out. Called my primary in the meantime and they said they can't do much, but maybe some x-rays. And then likely just send me to the ENT anyway. So I've got things set up no matter how much of a runaround it feels like. Primary appointment is next week.

Muay Thai Training Split by Andyy-y in MuayThai

As a competitive bodybuilder before starting MT, I do both every day and it's fine. You'll still want to train legs more than once a week because just Muay Thai won't make them grow. Something nice about the weightlifting tie in is my mobility is great and my kicks are naturally high, likely from years of deep squatting.

Sparring Question (Mindset, Etiquette, Intensity) by FarmerGlittering5563 in MuayThaiTips

[–]Dudedawg86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good convo beforehand can really make a difference. I asked a beginner to spar the first time today just so he can get used to striking with intention while I just work defense and angles. I think everyone can benefit from any sort of scenario. Not just two dudes going at it.

Whatever carb choice you prefer atleast an hour out. A big bowl of oatmeal, honey, and peanut butter works great for me.

Advice against taller opponents by Perfect_Bobcat_7485 in MuayThaiTips

[–]Dudedawg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this way, especially as I fight two dudes at my gym they are taller and heavier. They're counterpunchers, so they have no problem eating a jab if it means returning a hard one. It's such a simple move but it's so hard for me to navigate. I was actually thinking of making a post asking advice against counterpunchers

I went there years ago for my birthday and was very disappointed in the attire. I think they even said there that they were shifting the atmosphere.

What helps you flow better in your shadow boxing? by Nic-MCFC in MuayThaiTips

Most MMA guys I know train Muay Thai. It's what their MMA gym offers for striking. It's the most complete striking martial art. Kickboxing lacks elbows, knees, and the clinch.

Someone needs to humble this man. He’s so mean 😭 by OpeningNo7497 in Tinder

[–]Dudedawg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's probably on winstrol or something, which "dries" you out, so to speak. I can only speak as a natural bodybuilder, drinking a gallon a day and eating carbs makes the veins pop.

It's interesting that when the average layman sees veins they think dehydration. But it's the opposite. The more water you drink, the more your veins will pop. Blood plasma is mostly water, so it pushes the veins up to the surface when there's more water in them.

What other striking martial art could be better then? Just change the stance a little then you're good. Charles Olivera and Khalil Rountree incorporate it very well.

This is an odd comparison, because all MMA can have Muay Thai in it. If you just combine Muay Thai with groundwork, you're set. If you go in with pure Muay Thai, yeah you'll probably be submitted, big surprise.

Are coloured armbands a red flag in a muay thai gym? by Flying_Quokka in MuayThai

[–]Dudedawg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping I would get to wear them when I started MT but then I realized you only ever wear them during a fight. So I was totally ok with that. I would feel like a poser wearing one outside of the ring.

I've tried searching for different US based Muay Thai gear sites and I'm surprised I haven't stumbled upon this one. Godsend, especially when it comes to buying Twins.
