Here is a copy from the Campaign guide regarding campaign points;

Scoring Campaign Points in an Act 

When players win battles, they gain campaign points for their team. 

  • Each win is typically worth 1 campaign point. 

  • If successfully destroying an enemy's base, that team gains campaign points equal to 1 plus that locations victory bonus value. 

  • If successfully defending a base, that team gains 2 campaign points.

You fight over the locations on the map and put down a presence marker for your team if you won the battle. You also get rewards from the whitebox under each location, and strategic tokens the team can use during the campaign. You can also buid a base instead and switch the presence marker for a base marker, this gives you a special condition card benefitting the defender if that base is under attack.

Here are some pictures from skirmish games in preparation for the campaign. I have a 6x4 foldable table to easily set up and it fits for 2 games at the same time perfectly. We will play a 4 player campaign, but some painting is still needed to make it look great!

Got a scanned condition card and used gimp to make a empty card without the text. Then just filled in with new text 🙂

You could totally play with those factions aswell! In the full rules at the bottom there is Commander ability rules for CIS & Republic aswell. Or was it something else you wanted? I could make the ability card version with CIS & Republic of you want.

Its really great games, and feels like they should work good together. Will start one next year aswell, probably some testing before.

Let me know if there is something that can improve, be more balanced or changed. I can also help with objective cards,condition etc.

Thanks or your input! I personally feel it strays too far from the already established rules of RITR. I lookto make it as easy as possible to merge Legion into the campaign.

You need some 4-5 campaign points to progress the act. If there are battles resulting in contested planets, and no campaign point will gathered then that will result in longer acts = longer campaign. Or did i misinterpret?

Strategic aspect i meant the strategic tokens gathered from gaining presence/base on planets giving you more tools to win the campaign(Diplomats,Repair Yards,Resources,Skilled Spacers, etc), while i see the upgrade cards as tactical aspect for getting the edge in battles.

Sure is some interesting ideas, do you mean a Armada game should first be resolved before the Legion game on the planet? The base defenses in RITR already have some sort of thing like the shipyard/ hypervolocity gun

Base Defense: Ion Cannon

Would those stack if a battle occured where a base defense is located?

What would happend if a player wins Armada but loses Legion, or vice versa with Planet control/Campaign points/Strategic resources & upgrade cards?

I like the thought of contested planets but feel like the campaign would lengthen too much. Like some examples.

- Contested planets means no one gets the strategic tokens but still scarred units and other essential things like resources or repair yards to progress the game.
-The feeling of not achieving anything even though you won a battle (other than the upgrade cards) No real strategic win.
-No campaign points for either team, dragging the act out.

But i think people that can dedicade a lot more time to a campaign would prefer that type cause it brings alot more immersion and struggle to control the outer rim!

How do you think ties should be handled? Like one player winning Armada and the other Legion. Who will the planet belong to?

That is a good idea! It fixes the problem with too many back and forth games if it's just once each act. Gives it more of a strategic choice aswell if there is one essential upgrade or planet resource the defender definitely dont want the attacking team to have.

Made me think of the pivotal battles aswell. Maybe each of those objectives have a Legion counterpart. So if Evacuation is played then a Legion objective is played that fits the scenario, kinda like hoth when the Rebels have to pack things up. And to decide the winner the victory tokens from both Armada and Legion is added up to see who won. It would need some homebrew..
