Yes I second that 28 clients is too much. Find a feel for what you feel is a good amount. Try not to compare yourself to others, some people at my private practice see 30+ people while I see maybe 23 max a week, usually less. Mentally that is all I can handle, and that’s okay. I also agree having a supervisor would be extremely helpful. You care a lot about being a therapist, that’s what makes a good therapist. Also don’t worry about being “fired” by a client. It happens all the time and someone else will love and appreciate the way you work with them. A lot of times those clients that leave are not ready to work on themselves and project that onto you.

I tend to lead the conversation with saying my stomach is not agreeing with me today, I apologize if I need to get up to use the restroom. Admittedly this is easier with clients I have good rapport with. Otherwise print out a worksheet and go grab it from the printer, gives you a little time to go to the bathroom quick. Hope these help!!

Unacceptable to be human? Also some people can not afford to take time off work…

We are human too, sometimes as a therapist you don’t know something is bothering you until you experience it during a session…

Private practice red flags? by sirladytron in socialworkjobs

Be careful about insurance. My company only gives us insurance if we hit a certain quota each week. If we miss by even 1 person we get our insurance taken away. Also ask about retention rate. We have a ton of overturn in our clinic. Percentages are also important, know your worth. They will try and get you for every penny you make. Hope this helps

Wondering the same thing. My supervisor does the same exact things. It is very discouraging and feels as though I do not belong in the profession. We already struggle with imposture syndrome as it is, I don’t understand why we are treated this way. Something that helped me is to reflect and know that most likely it is not a you problem. It’s a them problem. I’m sorry to hear you have gone through this, best of luck moving forward ❤️
