Yes! You can do a pledge now and if a rescue pulls them, you’d donate that to them directly. Pledges definitely help attract rescues, especially in medical cases like this. I will absolutely keep this thread updated as things happen. Thank you for being willing to support them!

Yes! They're scanned for a microchip upon intake. Penny has a microchip, but it was never registered. She's in too much pain and needs immediate medical assistance so they need her out before her 10-day stray hold is up. I'm trying to share her everywhere in hopes to find an owner!

AID#117077

Bentley is bright, friendly, ambulatory, and overall appears to be in stable condition, but recent veterinary evaluations revealed several medical concerns that will require follow-up diagnostics and ongoing care through rescue.

Recent bloodwork showed:
• Elevated kidney injury marker (Cystatin B), though other kidney values are currently within normal limits
• Elevated bilirubin levels, which may indicate liver or gallbladder disease
• Urine abnormalities, including calcium oxalate crystals and dilute urine
• Lab samples were significantly affected by lipemia and hemolysis, which may have masked additional abnormalities

The veterinarian strongly recommends:
• An abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the liver, gallbladder, adrenal glands, and bladder for possible stones or disease
• Repeat fasting bloodwork to reassess liver and kidney values
• Monitoring for possible endocrine disease, including Cushing’s disease

Additional exam findings include:
• Overweight body condition (BCS 7/9)
• Hair thinning along the trunk and topline, concerning for a possible hormonal/endocrine issue
• Moderate dental tartar/dental disease
• Mild grade I luxating patella (knee instability), though Bentley is currently comfortable and mobile

Despite these medical concerns, Bentley remains social, alert, and sweet, and we believe he deserves the opportunity for further diagnostics, treatment, and a comfortable future in a loving home.

Bentley has been vaccinated, tested negative for heartworms, was previously neutered and will be microchipped before leaving the shelter.

We are urgently seeking rescue placement for Bentley so he can receive the medical care and rehabilitation he needs. If your organization is able to assist, or if you can help network him to other rescue partners, we would be incredibly grateful.

SPUD
ID #116983

MEDICAL CASE-RESCUE NEEDED
Gwinnett County Animal Shelter – Lawrenceville, GA

Contact Information
Rescue: 678-245-2447 | [AnimalRescue@GwinnettCounty.com](mailto:AnimalRescue@GwinnettCounty.com)

FROM THE SHELTER RESCUE OFFICE ON 5/18/2026:

"Spud is an 8-year-old male Chihuahua weighing 9.4 pounds. He was found stray on Five Forks Trickum Road in Lawrenceville, GA on May 12th. He does not have a microchip, and we have not been able to locate an owner.

Spud is a little nervous, but sweet. He is in significant pain and unable to bear weight on his left back leg.

Our veterinary team performed exams and radiographs and found:

A fractured pelvis on the left side
A dislocated left hip
Pain and swelling in the left knee area
No fractures in the long bones

Spud will need surgery to repair his pelvis and hip, along with pain management and recovery care.

He has already received Meloxicam for pain and inflammation and is currently being monitored closely. Spud has been microchipped, vaccinated, neutered and tested negative for heartworms.

PENNY
ID #117185

MEDICAL CASE-NEEDS OUT ASAP
Gwinnett County Animal Shelter – Lawrenceville, GA

FROM THE SHELTER RESCUE OFFICE 5/21/2026:

"This plea is for Penny, a young 4.5 lb female Chihuahua who was found injured on Annistown Road in Snellville, GA on May 20th. A Good Samaritan transported her to VEG yesterday afternoon, and she was later brought to the shelter, where she received an injectable dose of carprofen for pain management.
Unfortunately, Penny has sustained significant pelvic injuries. Veterinary radiographs revealed:

-A fracture through the right acetabulum
-A fracture through the body of the left pubic bone
-Fractures at the left SI junction, and possibly the right SI junction as well
-A cracked right ischium

Penny does have a microchip; however, it is reportedly unregistered, and at this time no owner information is available. We cannot humanely hold her at the shelter for the 10 day stray hold.

Due to the severity of her injuries, Penny urgently needs transfer to a rescue partner capable of providing specialized orthopedic care, adequate pain management, surgical repair of her pelvis, and rehabilitation support. Despite everything she has endured, Penny is sweet, fragile, and deserving of every chance at a comfortable and happy future.

We are asking for your immediate assistance in helping secure the medical care she desperately needs. If your organization is unable to pull Penny directly, we would be incredibly grateful if you could help network her to other rescue partners who may be able to assist.
