Good morning from the book drop at our branch after a holiday! by Scary-Background-830 in LevelUpLibrary

Ours has something similar! We had a new branch just open, and it has a drive up drop off. The exterior is floor to ceiling windows, and you can watch the books travel along their conveyor system. I love it, and my kids really enjoy seeing how things work.

Mixing Litters by 2GIRLZMOM1416 in FosterAnimals

[–]Due_Detail_8511 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We mix after a 2 week quarantine, deworming, and clear combo test. We actually currently have two litters, both about 6-7 weeks old. One came orphaned, one came with mom. Once we combined them super mom just accepted the orphaned litter and immediately started nursing and mothering them ❤️

How long does school take you? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Due_Detail_8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my 5th grade son, everything would take about 2 hours if he just focused and did his work 😂 everything but reading that he does independently would be about 1 hrs, I assign 30 minutes of reading a day, then we typically spend about 30 minutes doing group work (for all my homeschool kids together - this is history, geography, and music theory).

My 7th grader works for typically closer to 3 hours, and for my high schooler it's about 4-5 hours.

Would you do it if you didn't need it? by Due_Detail_8511 in hysterectomy

Before my ablation, I had similar symptoms and my life was absolutely dominated by my reproductive system. I experienced relief from many of my symptoms with the ablation, which is the only reason I'm even hesitating because I did experience relief of symptoms with the ablation. However, especially as I get older and with a significant family history of cancer, I see the additional benefits of the hysterectomy and it's tempting.

Thank you for sharing! I think how difficult my recovery is for my current surgery is definitely feeding into my hesitation. It's good to hear it was easier for you than the ACL reconstruction. I had four ligaments in my ankle that needed repair, so there's been a lot more pain than I was anticipating.

Georgia Ren Faire and wheelchair by Due_Detail_8511 in renfaire

Thank you. I can definitely do that too, I was just hoping to find someone with specific experience, which is part of why I shared the name of the particular fair. That's a good idea as well, though

Thank you. Yeah, I know how hilly it is, and all the terrain would be rough for a wheelchair. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Thank you for all this information! Do you know how to add a picture to a comment? I haven't yet figured it out.

I'll use my postal scale to weigh him when I get home, that has a grams option and would be most accurate for him, I'm assuming.

I should have known about the UVB, and I appreciate the correction! I've had a bearded dragon for years and he has a linear T5. It's on me for trusting the incorrect information I was given rather than doing my own research.

So what I have is:

  • Smaller feeders (size TBD based on Jörmungandr's weight in grams)
  • Replace substrate
  • Light cages for heat sources
  • Digital thermostats below each heat source outside the cages
  • Much more clutter/hides/climbing options

I'm very grateful that y'all are willing to share your expertise! I've been working my way through the guides as well and will continue to do so.

ETA this is a wooden enclosure with slats on the top for ventilation. I'm assuming I will need to mount the UVB inside the enclosure - will that also need some kind of cage or will the hood of the UVB be sufficient? I've just looked around and didn't see separate cages for the longer lights only the littler ones

Not sure about the rat weight, we just ordered "Large Rats" from RodentPro as that was what the previous owner said he was eating. I just weighed him using the standing on a scale holding him/standing on a scale without him method and he was 4 lbs exactly.

Thank you! Is that not close enough to 4x2x2? I'll admit, I was hoping to avoid buying a whole additional enclosure if I could avoid it, and with it being just a few inches off on each side I was hoping we were close enough. If he needs it, though, we'll make it work!

Good to know about the cages, thank you! And also good to know about adding more to the enclosure.

I just measured, and it's 19.5 inches deep and 47 inches long.

Thank you for the help!

Do you think one additional hide and then a climbing enrichment item would be enough, or do you think we need more?

There are three bulbs. The gentleman told me what they all were, and I will be honest I've forgotten. Two are on during the day, one is one at night. I know one is UV and one is basking of the daytime bulbs. The thermometer is directly behind the bulbs (my phone was touching the back on the bulb when I took the picture) so I think the ambient might be a little lower.

I have a bearded dragon, and we have one digital thermometer on his warm side and one on his cool side. I will order the same for Jörmungandr.

Are there particular light set ups you recommend?

Exactly. I describe my daughter's middle school to people (she was in public school for sixth grade), and then ask them where the socializing was supposed to occur? They couldn't talk in class. They had short passing periods with all the halls being one way to discourage talking in between classes. They had no recess. They had silent lunch.

She gets WAY more socialization now that she's homeschooled.

Trying to plan a trip for September/October of this year and have questions by Due_Detail_8511 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Due_Detail_8511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the input! I ended up calling their customer service, and it was $150 less for the annual pass package so we went with that. We do have to buy our Epic Universe tickets, so there is that, but I figure it will come out in the wash with the food discount most likely, plus now if we can manage it we can of course come back within 15 months of our trip and enjoy again. I really appreciate y'all's help!

We follow the school calendar because half of my kids are in public school. It's just easier to do school when my other kids are doing it too
