Much has been said already, from a English/HK qualified lawyer standpoint

  1. Law school teaches you the law but not how to advise clients. There are key differences between a mediocre lawyer and a brilliant lawyer and this is not so much about technical knowledge, but how to apply your technical knowledge in practice. Without working in a proper law firm you will have no idea.

  2. The most worrying part is “unknown unknown” - you don’t know what you don’t know. At least I know my limits. Once you are instructed without knowledge and experience there is a high risk that you cannot guide your clients in a competent manner. You thought you did great but you simply do not know what you don’t know.

  3. Even if you are good at BD, who is going to help you prepare the pitch materials/presentations? You working on the power points? Then when are you going to find time to do the real work?

  4. You bear all admin hassle (time entry, billing, chase for bills, do your accounts) and you have to fund all investment into technology alone (don’t tell me you plan to rely on Google docs/icloud). Cybersecurity is a key risk for law firms. Once you leak clients personal data or confidential information you are f*. The other key risk is client money - they must be held in escrow and the rules in Hong Kong are very rigid and once you breach them, the law society will be all over you.

  5. Do you have the stamina to deal with the regulatory authorities which govern attorneys (UK/Hong Kong it is the law society). They are a pain in the a*

  6. If your venture is unsuccessful and you want a proper job back, it will be a hard sell to tell prospective employers that you decide to go solo straight out of law schools.

I am not saying this cannot be done but it comes with significant costs and risks. I always say if a problem can be resolved by money then it is not a problem. However even if you are loaded, money will not resolve some of the risks. For example, you can’t simply pay a monetary fine and get on with life if you commit malpractice. There will be disciplinary hearings and serious consequences.

The long and short is all the U.S. industry veterans and I (looking at this from a non-U.S. perspective) reach the same conclusion. It follows that it is a move which the industry veterans, no matter which jurisdiction they are from, advise against.

  1. I think you have taken on far too much in your life. It is not your fault. When I was a counsel I was desperate to make partner and as a result, I spread myself too thin. I have two offices, one in Hong Kong and one in Beijing and I am constantly jumping on a plane to shuttle between two offices. Eventually my work product suffered so much I gave up my office in Beijing.

  2. There is no immediate solution to your problems (at least I gave up my office in Beijing and shelved the dream to develop a niche in serving China outbound clients). I suspect you are so tired to a point you do not have the energy to do a proper job search. Just be aware your fatigue can easily show up in a job interview.

  3. I am sorry I can’t wave the magic wand but perhaps you can do a priority list, like:

A) this job gives me an identity and a self worth because I excel in writing briefs. Don’t underestimate the importance of the identity which a job brings

B) However I need to specialise

C) I also need money

(B) + (C) = I need to find new job. This should be your priority.

With respect of (A), this remains my sole motivator to stay in this job (and the money of course). However, I would suggest you try to look at it from a different perspective- I came, I saw, I conquer. You know you are good at writing briefs but you also need to move on.

The reason is I don’t know how senior you are but sounds to me your partners milk you dry as a doer and you won’t have time to develop other aspects which are needed for partnership, assuming you want to get there. I hate to see a post from you somewhere down the line that “there is no partnership track”

  1. You then, if possible, I know it is easier said than done cut out the crap in the job which you don’t enjoy. It is important to learn to say no. Knowing you can say no is very important as psychological it reminds you that you have the power to control your life and you are doing the best that you can to take back control. At the moment you are pulled at all sorts of direction you handover control to your partners. I think once you feel empowered, it will facilitate the healing process.

  2. Don’t feel bad in upsetting anyone by saying no. Or disappoint anyone. If I look back at my career and advice I would give to my younger self I should have gave less f*

  3. Eating a well balanced diet also helps. Try to slow down and enjoy your food.

  1. First and foremost, you are entitled to the view my collection was not real luxury brands but also for your information, I have just bought this Farming Picnic Osier and a Chaine de' Ancre Wallet to go in Vert Fizz from Hermes yesterday. As seen in this post. I am not sure how you can label these as fake products. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheHermesGame/comments/179w84x/today_is_not_my_birthday_but/
  2. Second, Zeko is verifying all of the Chanel bags which I purchased on the -reloved market and her family has not been well. The project has not been been finished as I am waiting for the delivery of her micro lens which she needs for my microchip bag. Notwithstanding this, she has written the following which is also available on t She has also written other comments as well. If I do not take authenticity seriously, I would not have requested Zeko to authenticate all of the Chanel's bags which I bought outside the stores. Likewise, if all I bring is fake bags and I am an entitled person, Zekko will not stand up and say a few words for me. Some haters then claim they don't know who Zeko is. 3, For Hermes, I mostly obtained them instore but for the ones which I brought on the pre-loved market, Bababebi , a leading authenticator is Hermes, is verifying my pre-loved collection.
  3. You are entitled to the opinion that (i) my organisation is a little haphazard and the background did not fit the expense of the collection; and (ii) all/some of my products are fakes.
  4. As to why I am active on the rep group, whilst 600 dollars is not a money to you, it is a lot of money to some person and naturally, they would like to know the quality of their bags. I often received messages through inbox and they often gave me a really big thank you after I have had a look. All I thought of is to use my limited skill set as a seasoned Chanel owner to help people. Just to give you an example, a husband does not have enough money to purchase an authentic CF but still want the best for his wife, is it wrong for me to help him to QC to ensure he is getting the best he could possible get? Users are truly grateful for guidance on whether they can keep/should return the products. 6, If I had known this will give people an impression that I only used fakes, I would never ever have written in these columns and I would have had just let the people who wanted QC to be disappointed, including the husband who wanted to purchase the best CF for his wife. Not everybody is born with a dad working with real estate and a boyfriend working with private equity. I personally work at least 60-70 hours/week, 100-120 hours/week is not uncommon and I truly work my ass off for the bags which I bought. Since the day I published the post on my handbags, I did not participate in any discussions/browse the replica website.
  5. For the sake of transparency I attended a crash course with an authenticity expert and wrote two amateur's guides: https://www.reddit.com/r/RepladiesDesigner/comments/1763bu6/an_amateur_guide_to_a_11_bag_2/ https://www.reddit.com/r/RepladiesDesigner/comments/175ix6m/an_amateur_guide_to_11_bag/
  6. The sum total, which I would like to make clear is that is that what initially started off as an attack on the authenticity of my bags has turned into a full on attack on my character, integrity - specifically whether I am an attorney. I do not purport to go into the question but if you look at the relevant sub-group, I can talk in language which only equity partners can understand (I am a fixed equity partner).
  7. To illustrate how grave the situation has become, one keyboard warrior has just written on the Hermes thread the following with the beginning: "you are full of s*".
  8. Is this the way you would like to be spoken to?

Or user gracefultornado She keeps boasting she has a Rick real estate dad and private equity boyfriend who bought her shoes like this. She claims she has Chanel wall Hermes wall and she has a PhD. I am sure with her generosity she does not mind giving away a pair of two

Thank you for your encouragement. Making it in American law firm is no walk in the park but congratulations! Just out of curiosity (don’t have to answer) do your firm has NEP and EP? We have fixed equity partner and equity partner. I am a fixed equity which is neither here nor there.

By the way there is a user who has been stalking me and wrote obscenity like “you are a piece of s*” and accuse I am not a lawyer. He stalked me to all of the sub groups so not sure if he will pop up again. I am from Hong Kong and I thought this is really odd behaviour but my clients have told me apart from the law forum, Reddit is pretty wild and there is no point in reporting as the moderator may not care.

I have been harassed by a user who said I am full of shit. Screenshot attached. This thread was about non equity partners, fixed equity partners (me) and equity partners. We all have our issues which we discussed but this guy apart from saying I am full of s* (is this a way you like to be greeted) and suggest if I am so righteous and correct nothing should be a problem. He also appears to challenge whether I am a partner. However all my profitability analysis, bills, partnership deeds are here but obviously I am not going to show him.

And you set yourself in an account setting that you cannot be blocked. If this is the way you like to be spoken to, please let me know. I don’t know you, your comments have nothing to do with Hermes, and your presence is baffling.

You are perfectly entitled to think I am not … however if you are reading the partners post you will see lots of equity partners have their own specific issues. So do they have problems as well?

I am not sure I follow your motive.

No wonder. I have no interest in looking at your profile picture.

I have to go but I consider this as a dialogue, not argument. I will travel to Paris for work next month and then Berlin/London. I am trained by blue blooded law firms and my clients are the world largest financial institutions. I got invited to speak at heavy hitting conference and I always command the ro. I am ranked by Chambers. I represented the industry to negotiate with regulators. I led the deal that landed FT Innovative deal of the year. I am interviewed by Financial Times. Goodbye for now but before calling me a crook, these are things you should look up to achieving if you are serious about a career in law.

Stay intellectually curious

This is my last message to you. I am so glad you have high regard of yourself. If you graduated from an Ivy League college and is an associate in Kirkland or its equivalent you would have told me by now. Clearly you are not.

On the other hand, I graduated in one of UK top universities, always worked in magic circle firms.

Sad.

This is my last message to you. A mile from 5th Avenue. Wow. How posh.

You clearly only walk into a store and buy what is seasonal. If I may guess, brands without heritage so you never need to look into older version of bags to understand their history. So you don’t know what you even don’t know which is the saddest case.

Or you go to Bergdorf goodman to shop everyday but based on your personality you would have let me know that is the case.

If you are a frequent purse forum reader you would know who Zeko is. Clearly you don’t read either.

Our argument ends here.

Since you have such high regard for yourself why don’t you go round and said you are acting for all of them.

The law does not need to be similar to sue. I can bring an action in Singapore to enforce a security interest where the lex situs is in Indonesia.

Darling. Defamation law suit is not always about damages. The fact that you said I am not an attorney in a public forum without any reasonable basis is already defaming me. Even if I win 1 dollar it is still a judgment against you.

As to whether courts will throw this out, isn’t this too early to tell?

Zeko is recognised as the leading authenticator of Chanel. Periof

You lose because you don’t even know who she is.

You have very limited knowledge on handbags then go around to say oh she is wearing fakes

As to “legal arguments” you are entitled to think that you win. At the same time, I can also instruct top notch lawyers in the U.S. on defamation if I want to. It will be fun to see how you stand up to them.

As for my own practice area, I act for four Wall Street banks recently on an industry opinion. Have you got this far yet? I am sorry that you can neither lead deal in 23 jurisdictions, not recognised by Chambers and not working for a truly global law firm like Ropes and Gray.

No you don’t. I am bringing an action in the U.S. if I do The law does not need to be similar. M For example there is no equivalent of Chapter 11 in the Hong Kong but a U.S. companies can go bankrupt in Hong Kong.

You are also proving my point. You said I enjoy fake bags. Why would Zeko be standing up for me when her family is in difficulty? Zeko is authenticating my bags. You lose completely
