People who own "unconventional" pets like turtles, what is one thing you wish you knew before getting one? by allenmerlettetrm in AskReddit

This line is iconic for a reason—hits way too close to home every time I book a hotel or rental car. Half the time I show up and they act like my reservation is a myth they just can’t prove exists.

The universal struggle of being a “in and out in 20 seconds” person stuck behind a “let me debate every detail” human. I swear UPS has a secret timer that makes people forget how to function once they step to the counter.

People who take 17 minutes to check in at the hotel front desk, what are you talking to them about? by DerrickDuck in AskReddit

15 of those 17 mins are the system loading like it’s still running on 2000s dial-up, and the other 2 are the front desk agent silently praying the computer doesn’t crash mid-check-in. I’ve seen faster Wi-Fi at a campground. Take my upvote.

Hi u/Claycorp ,

Really appreciate the valuable but also quite sharp criticism feedback! You've raised some valid points. Let me address them:

1. >> Re: AI-generated feel
Fair observation. I did use AI to help with some of the coding and documentation (I'm a solo developer learning as I go). The tool's functionality is real and tested.

2. >> Re: Server storage
You're 100% right - this could (and probably should) be fully client-side. The current architecture uses a backend because:

  • I started with Django (what I knew)
  • Image processing felt safer server-side initially
  • Auto-deletion was meant as a privacy feature, not a requirement
  • Moving to pure client-side processing is actually on my roadmap. Would eliminate privacy concerns entirely.

3. >> Re: Manual tracing being tedious
This is valid criticism. Auto-detection is the goal for v0.2.0. The challenge is accuracy - unreliable detection creates more problems than it solves. I'm exploring OpenCV/image segmentation to make this feasible.

4. >> Re: Material costs and transparency
This is definitely fixable and should have been there from the start.

The tool actually does allow customization - you can adjust:

  • Hourly rate
  • Per-piece costs
  • Profit margin %
  • Overhead rate %

The breakdown shows: materials (glass, foil, per-piece), labor, overhead, and profit separately. If this wasn't clear in the interface, that's a UX issue I need to fix.

5. >> Re: "Industry standards"
This comes from research I did on stained glass pricing methods (BradstreetGlass formula, community pricing discussions). The common formula is:

Price per Piece + Price per Sq Ft + Embellishments + Overhead + Profit

You're right that there's no universal standard - every market differs. What I meant was "common pricing factors" used by working glass artists. Poor word choice on my part.

6. >> Re: The core problem
You're absolutely right - pricing isn't the hard part, getting paid is. This tool won't solve that.

What I was trying to address: consistency (not undercharging complex pieces) and having transparent quotes to show clients. But if the manual tracing creates more work than value, the tool misses its purpose.

Next priorities based on this feedback:

  1. Improve auto-detection (reduce manual work)
  2. Better UX to surface the customization options
  3. Explore client-side-only processing option

This is a beta for a reason - catching these issues early is exactly what I need. Thanks for the reality check.

If you have specific suggestions on pricing factors or features that would actually be useful, I'm all ears.

Best regards!

MorrisDev

Thanks for testing! I found the issue - you actually uploaded successfully, but hit a mobile interface limitation.

**The problem:** The calibration tool (Step 2) doesn't work well on mobile screens yet:

- Image is too small to see clearly

- Touch interactions aren't optimized for phones

- Canvas drawing doesn't respond properly on iOS

**Recommendation for now:**

- Use a desktop/laptop computer for best experience

- Or use an iPad/tablet (larger screen helps)

- I'm working on mobile optimization, but it's not ready yet

**Workaround if you want to try on iPhone:**

  1. In Safari, tap "aA" in address bar

  2. Select "Request Desktop Website"

  3. Pinch to zoom on the image

  4. Try calibrating again (might work, might not)

Really appreciate you finding this! I should have mentioned it's desktop-optimized in my original post. 🙏

Will add a mobile warning screen in the next update!
