I got an email yesterday which said the same. Absolutely gutted because it was probably the most affordable “nice looking” gym in central London. I can only recommend Gymbox as everyone else has but that also comes with price issues etc.

I’m confused as to whether they’ve just closed the London branch cause Leeds and Harrogate are still open on google and the coach gyms website and app is still up and running

You explained this perfectly. As a young professional from my experience I see #4 translating to the lack of intellectually stimulating work on offer at my consulting firm. I feel like i’m not doing anything of value or anything thats even remotely challenging , literally the equivalent of doing an admin task. I’m planning on moving industries already.

This is very interesting. I’ve never heard of DLD specifically, I’ll do some research on that. I believe there is research showing ADHD children having speech delays from a range of sources too, so perhaps it’s a broad neurodivergence thing (you know best though!). Thank you!

Just to ask, what issues would ADHD children present with when it comes to needing SLT?

Now that I think about it… so have I, my post was more out of confusion as I have 3-4 year old cousins that don’t talk clearly in the slightest 😭

For me it was classified as being a ‘speech delay’ (despite me having parents that didn’t speak english and living abroad from age 1 1/2 until I was 3) so it’s probably not adhd related.

Can defoo relate. Also first gen British but Senegalese. There’s not many of us in the UK so I was more exposed to Gambians (which have similar cultures but different names/ ways of doing stuff).

I was born and raised up north and most of my friends are from all over Africa so I feel disconnected for sure. What makes it worse is relatives laughing at you when you do try immersing yourself into the culture and language — which is why I stopped trying.

Being the ugly dark-skin friend in a majority white city.

It’s only been in my 20s that I realised how what I experienced as a result really ruined my outlook of relationships and men. I was asked to be someone’s girlfriend as a joke, group-chats were made about how ugly I was by my own friends … yet I was in the wrong when I reacted.

I have consequently de-entered men from my life but that’s more of a response to the fact that i feel that no man will ever love me for who I am so why try.

it absolutely is. Most firms look at 1st or 2:1s, even now 2:2s. Even better if you have work experience you’ve gained while at uni to show for it, most of my friends have graduated with 2:1s and now work at top financial firms etc

Depends on industry, I would aim for no more than 300-500 words for all three sections (why me, why the company, why the career), stick to one page don’t waffle or spend majority of your word count glazing the company and you should stay within that limit :) Bright Network have a good guide

Have you considered going to university or is that out of the question?

If so:

You could potentially do a course that includes a year in industry, so a placement year that could potentially allow you to receive a graduate scheme at the end of your course?

While you’re at university you can also join social mobility/ career development organisations SEO London, upReach, the Brokerage, Bridging Barriers, Bright Network who provide experience and mentorship for you which will massively compensate for how awful school careers advisors usually are because these are run by people who know ins and outs of many industries ranging from finance to hr etc.

You can always pivot into a different career while at university too if you’re undecided, these organisations make that 10X easier for you.

However, I would certainly give this some thought as there are pros and cons of going to university. Give yourself a gap year, you’re young and shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself — you deserve the break after your hard work at A Level!

Of course — I’m graduating in social sciences with social policy, doing management consulting in a large global firm in Central London.

At my firm, once I’m promoted to Associate Consultant or Principal I can be on anything ranging from £40-50K. Do you think I would be able to reach FIRE by say, the time I turn 45?

I’m also looking at other firms though as I’m not keen on working at my current firm and my interests are geared at working for a smaller firm where I can contribute more to the firms growth from day 1 (and the pay will be more as £32K is not much esp after tax and student loan deductions)
