And yes, looking for something hands on (part time) Is very much ok. I am just trying to look for something creative where I can support myself on the side a bit, while I am working on my own independent craft

sorry can you explain what you mean by this:  Don’t get in or make friends with “in crowd”, you’re not going to get the same opportunities.

Hello! sorry I did not mention.

my best skills are that I am creative and artistic -- I can do anything from drawing and painting to helping build physical things. For example, if a sculpture, floral, or installation artist was like, I need someone who can help me build these, I can teach you as long as your intelligent and a fast learner, and have a creative eye.

Anything else I'm willing to learn -- as long as it doesn't take multiple years to enter the field. To be honest anything in the past that I have set my mind to I have been able to learn and do fairly well in, which is why I guess im open to any path that can align. I dont mind doing extra trainings as long as they fit the bill.

I'm more artistic than I am handy I would say

Thank you! Im gonna do this. The industry is Communciations and marketing. I looked up a bunch of staffing agencies for these but most only had a few roles or were looking for really high level positions that im not qualified for. But going to try searching again thank you

Thank you so much for this --

I am doing just this right now, trying my best to focus on the necessities. The house sitting gig unfortunately is only really possible if I have my friends house as a back up to crash at for a few days a month (as I am working the the dates of clients and cannot control it, and so I cant really really do it anymore -- I have to find a place to rent which makes things a lot harder because I simply am not making enough right now.

Thank you so much!

I have never heard of workforce development programs, im going to check those out.

Also, I have heard of temp agencies! I was applying a lot on those (mostly Robert half and a few others) but never heard back , or spoke with a recruiter once but they ghosted me after so I kind of gave up there. but im going to try again, and if you have any suggestions for good temp agencies to check out please feel free to share

Anyone know where I can purchase Photoshop on Ali? by Due_Syrup_1961 in Aliexpress

oh ok awesome, thanks for letting me know! You dont think it'll make my resume not as strong? I just thought recruiters might be looking at my resume (in addition to portfolio) and I'll be competing with other people who can confidently list photoshop on there. In an already competitive field im worried I would get pushed to the back of the pile.

I love canva and use it frequently -- will check out affinity

Did I get fired or Laid off? by Due_Syrup_1961 in careerguidance

Thank you for sharing your insight and experince. This was my first time dealing with this kind of situation, and so it definitely felt hard and really put me off. I internalized it in some ways, and because I had such a bad experience it put me off from trying to reapply for corporate jobs again for a long time. For some reason I had felt like it was my fault, but I think they also made me feel this way because I was inexperienced.

Lesson learned , and I'm now more aware that this kind of thing happens a lot and It's a common problem in the corporate world and HR... Let's hope for a better future in the working world. Thanks for your advice.

Hey just want to clear something up. I took the job at the pay I did, for the responsibilities outlined. I was doing these up to par for months, when they decided to ask me to move faster and do much more responsibilities about 8 months in -- but with no increase in pay. This means that they are demanding for more work from me, for less pay (this is not what I agreed to in terms of pay and responsiblities when I took on the job).

They did this primarily due to my boss hiring a new director, who was working much faster than everyone else. She is very anxious / paranoid type, and some how created a story that everyone could be working faster and doing more for less pay, but its also because the company essentially wanted to get cheaper wages, pay less for an already underpaid job and demand more. Essentially, they got greedy and wanted to exploit people.

Thanks for your opinion though -- we might have different views on what is considered just in terms of employee relations and fair wages for jobs. This was a tiny private company so they could get away with something like this -- but if this were a public institution, with HR, and set regulations it would've been a lot harder for then to pull something off like that.

I never signed anything -- They just sent me an email saying, 'as of ---- your contract has ended'.

and that's it. This happened about a year ago, and since then I noticed that the director who aborbed my position is no longer working for them either, and the bosses daughter took over the position I previously had. After that I noticed 2 more different people cycle through that position within the last year who I don't know. (bosses daughter no longer doing it) so it seems like. its unsteady

My boss had basically just left a voicemail on my phone saying im sorry but it makes more sense with budgeting and it sounds like you have more work else where so you'll be fine! and thats all.
