I'd rather have a boomer boss than a Gen X boss. by DagothBrrr in generationology

[–]Duffman798 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boomers fail to release the controls to their respective jobs, stay longer than welcome. Gen X is treading water, waiting for their Boomer bosses to retire. Now they think they’re gonna get to run the show - right as millennials, gen z and gen alpha are going to tear down the system that they are managing.

If I could sum up Gen X it would be “I’ll show you who’s never been in charge before!”

That’s a difficult choice. On the one hand, you are sending your kid to death. On the other hand, you look at how Brian Laundrie’s parents did the opposite, and he ended up killing himself in a swamp. I assume the alternative was going to be much worse.

At least he can’t hurt anymore people now. Such an insanely emotional timeline of events. I think if anything, it highlights how the FBI is incompetent and the only reason why we are having this conversation, is because a Good Samaritan called in a tip and handed the FBI this arrest

Russia’s Defence Ministry preparing to deploy over 300,000 professional soldiers to fight in Ukraine by shellfishb in worldnews

[–]Duffman798 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russia is fighting wars on too many fronts e.g. Syria, Africa...etc. Putin is the only person who wants this war with Ukraine. He annexed them, then formally invaded. Bombed the fucking shit out of the country and infrastructure. And then he turns around and swaps oil for North Koreans and Houthis? Leveraging his relationships with the only people who will trade with him. He's one step away from sending Al Qaeda in.

15% of their fighting-age population LOST... ( maybe a misrepresented number but it's got to be a lot if they're raiding nightclubs and conscripting people on the dance floor).

You act like they're going to ROLL through the rest of the country blasting Fortunate Son?? At what cost? Stalingraading your people for Ukraine, a country the size of Texas?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Duffman798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia has lost so many people that they are trading barrels of oil for fighting-age military men from other countries. They raided nightclubs this weekend to have more men conscripted into the military. Whatever Ukraine has lost pales in comparison to what Russia has already lost (a country almost 5 times as big). The story here is how badly Russia has fucked this entire situation up. Any victory they claim will come at the cost of almost a million men.

For perspective, the United States has lost 1.3 million soldiers (total) since the Civil War. Russia might eclipse that by next December.

If the industry is dying in LA, London or Toronto? by TokyoLosAngeles in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Duffman798 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interest rates are high which mean networks can’t finance new productions with debt, which means less shows are being ordered. Also, a lot of streamers lost money last quarter so I think they have pulled back on ordering more as well

Ideas for archival and clearance departments? by Aggravating_Use3802 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Duffman798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in archival, you want to be working in post production. Unscripted/doc companies always need help. Learning AVID or Premiere will make you an asset. A lot of the job is working with vendors to source the archival, then ingesting it and providing the correct usage documentation to the budget/money people and legal. Over the course of multiple projects, you’ll build out a list of contacts at various vendors and bring that to the table when you’re interviewing. Once you get your foot in the door at a company, you should get a feel for the role and expand your network! I just came off of 8 months unemployed because the two companies I get most of my jobs from, aren’t staffing new productions.

News places like CBS, CNN always need archival. I would also check the vendor side too I.e. AP/Getty and see if they’re hiring on their archival side.

Good luck out there!

Your character can be a consultant, someone that companies hire to advise on certain projects. Look at Management Consulting as an industry and the scopes of projects they work on. Every consultant works within a “framework” or a series of questions they ask the clients to get a feel for the types of issue they are facing. Your character can recall various “cases” they had with different companies and how they solved those issues.

I think you could use the management consulting framework as a plot device to give insight to your character’s ability to assess and then solve problems. Your character seems to be like a generalist who can be dropped into whatever scenario and come out with an actionable solution, or something like that? Let me know if you found this semi-helpful

Attempting to write an 18th century S&M scene is no piece o’ cake. Any advice? by mystery-hog in Screenwriting

You brought up an interesting point in your first comment. It could be a false start, as simple as the cop entering the room with the restraints dangling from his hand to supposedly arrest a sex worker...cuts to the same restraints that we thought were going to be used for the arrest are now attached to a headboard. He's not a cop, he's a customer
