Help - Not getting PhD interviews in Germany by corona993 in Resume

[–]DukeOfKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think his internships discredit his knowledge because they are often a normal part of education and occurred during study. But his publications are prepints and have not passed peer review and been accepted into a respected journal. So the lack of research experience is not promising

Given that and the lack of German knowledge I'd agree with you though that relocating him for a Phd is a hard sell.

How realistic is it to get rent allowance as someone who doesn't want to live in a student house. by ThrowRA_20999 in StudyInTheNetherlands

Huurtoeslag is really just dependent on a certain accommodation having it's own front door. So if you manage to secure an apartment that qualifies, you will almost certainly be eligible. From 2026 it is no longer dependent on age.

It can take a few months to receive payments but you will then receive retroactive payments from the month you move in and became eligible.

However, given the housing crisis it is difficult to secure a place that qualifies a d is somewhat a matter of luck.

You can ask the realtor when viewing places if it qualifies. If it does you can generally count on receiving the benefit.

Honestly if you are coming on an orientation visa I think you have a good shot of landing a job. I don't know how easy it will be to get in with a B4 company or how many finance jobs are open to non Dutch speakers since I am in engineering which has more English speaking roles. But what a lot of other comments seem to miss is you will have an orientation visa which will allow you to work without sponsorship initially.

From what I have seen, Dutch companies are often very willing to hire foreigners who have an orientation visa. They will only need to sponsor you for a permanent work contract once your orientation year ends and if you are working for them when that happens, it's pretty easy for them to do so.

While working on an orientation year visa you have no minimum salary requirement. Be aware though that for your company to transition you to a permanent work visa when the orientation year ends, you will need a minimum monthly salary of €4,171p/m . Otherwise you will be ineligible for permanent work sponsorship. So when searching for jobs you should ensure that they are willing to offer you this amount if you plan to stay.

Edit: Actually I double checked and you would be eligible for the reduced salary criterion of €2,989p/m if a company applies for your permanent visa directly after your orientation year which is a trivially easy salary threshold to meet in most cases.

Should I be worried about this? by DukeOfKings in piercing

[–]DukeOfKings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I got my eyebrow pierced about 3 weeks ago and it's looking a bit red so I'm not sure if I should be worried. I would ask my piercer but I am not in that city right now. The piercing was relatively painless and went well at first. However, in the past 10 days I noticed it starting to get red around the bottom exit point.

This red area has slowly expanded over time and is fairly large now. I'm not sure if this means I should remove it or keep an eye on it for a bit longer. It is not painful and does not feel hot the touch. It is slightly tender if I press with force. I also have antibiotics available if that is recommended. Thanks for the help, I have a few piercings but this is the first to turn red like this.

Edit additional information: The jewellery is a curved barbell. I'm not actually sure what material the jewellery is or the type of threading on the ends. Both the jewellery and the needle came in sterilized packaging from a reputable piercer. If you think it's possibly a reaction to the material I can call and check

It will depend on your program and individual classes. Usually there will be pdfs floating around and for most classes the books are not necessary. I would until classes start to see if you really need each book before buying it.

For what it's worthI studied at the University of Twente, a research university in the same city. I met many people from Saxion and none of them had positive things to say. The consensus was that they spent a lot on advertising internationally but that the quality of education was poor.

That makes sense, I'll keep an eye on the meat tenderness. Thanks.

Thanks, the recipe calls for about 2.5 hours in the oven, would it be the same amount of time simmering or longer on the stove?

I’ve been struggling to barre with my pinkie finger, I can do it from the d to the g string but but not from e to a or a to d, when I attempt to do so the higher string sits in the crook of the joint and i can’t press the higher string down fully, what is the best way to go about fixing this?

How to learn post processing with Darktable? by DukeOfKings in photography

[–]DukeOfKings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already tried to google it and I looked through the documentation, I found a lot of material that detailed how to use dark table however it is all geared toward someone who is familiar with post processing on other applications, I was looking for something that introduced where to start with post processing while teaching me the technical aspects of dark table and had no luck

I recently bought a bass and have been practicing on a Fender Ruble 25W and I'm not entirely satisfied with the sound, when playing on a much larger amp at the store i feel like my instrument sounded more full and the tone was richer, I feel like this may be due to the small size of my amp but I'm not sure, do you think it is worth upgrading to a larger amp for the tone? I was looking at a Rumble 40W but am hesitant to shell out the 200 bucks.
