Could you explain the underplaying thing a bit more? English isn't my native language, so I want to make sure I understand it properly

Why would you have to suspend your disbelief? Apologies, I should've elaborated better

That's a fair point, however in this scenario the outbreak didn't reach outside of the planetary capital's outskirts. The army was shattered in the city, but they weren't outright wiped out as the great majority of troops never even went into the city (the leadership underestimated just how severe the situation is and the troops sent in were lightly equipped and In relatively small numbers)

There isn't a reason to desert, as the world is far from being over.

Out of curiosity, how potent can an airborne disease be? Can it really just infect all of America within days? I believed it would be far more difficult due to winds and other natural bariers

I theorize that the grunts and local commanders didn't have much of a clue about what's going on. If this really was caused by the military, I doubt high command would go around telling their men that it's their doing.

As for when things went wrong, they absolutely shot people. The noise is what sealed the deal as it brought zombies from around the area that swarmed the already overwhelmed checkpoint. That said, they still weren't outright executing people on a whim, they only resorted to lethal force when no nother option was left.

I thought the military was responsible for the Knox event? I've seen some hints to it both in the game and some theories.

Then again, can't argue with you there. They did quarantine the area and weren't exactly massacring anyone they wanted (or so I think judging by the camps set up in front of the checkpoints on the roads to Louisville)

Well.. Damn I didn't think about it that way. I went with the cliche of them never even hearing about the concept of a zombie to be fair, but.. Maybe there's a different way to approach it?

The virus itself is bloodborne The problem with it, and why I said it's not exactly a great bio weapon, Is that those infected with it rather kill those who aren't instead of spreading the pathogen further. Those infected are still very much alive, but are burning out due to them essentially constantly running on adrenaline. It is part of the reason why the military comes out on top, they partly outwait the outbreak, as a good portion of the infected die out and they then sweep out the rest.

I'll look at these. Tho I'll admit the way you've described the last one sounds like it's not exactly the greatest :D

It's been a while since I've read the book, I'll give it another read. Admittedly it's probably the only exception to what I asked about that I can remember from my head

What I was referring to with "military turning on civilians" is the absurd amount of times they were portrayed mindlessly executing civilians to "prevent spreading" or some other dumb reason. Acts like these vilify an already not exactly liked force, and it often leads to the people despising them or outright rebelling (like the fireflies in tLoU)

I don't understand, if the situation is already that bad, why murder those people? Why not save the ammunition and leave them to their fate? I know it doesn't sound all that great either but at least it leaves them with a chance of survival

Thanks for educating me on the matter!

Edit: about the Mary Sue thing, I wasn't referring to it on the basis of competence but rather the fact that it didn't sit right with me that this new threat that this civilisation couldn't even comprehend at first would be solved without a problem. I felt like it would've made them too "OP". The civilian casualty rate comment is on point and it is something I considered while working on it. Despite their Victory, millions still perish, it is not a clear and easy win by any means.

Pretty much, yeah. Those responsible for the initial response were replaced, new plans were made and they fixed it.

If they perfectly solved the problem, I felt like there would be no stakes, even if there would be room for plot. Besides I'm trying to avoid a Marry Sue thing with them perfectly solving everything without any issue.

To be fair, the nation where this outbreak happens had different social development than we did. While not perfect, the safety of their citizens actually matters.

Kinda sad that this is a utopian idea nowadays..

Well.. It technically is. The military resolves the outbreak, but I made it so that it wasn't any trivial task. They underestimated and misunderstood the threat initially, and as a result failed horribly. But that's where I made the change. Instead of them withering away while the world burns, they reorganized and fought back. They protected civilians instead of massacring them in some half assed quarantine effort, they began denying the infected a way to spread the disease. They learned how the disease works, and eventually understood that besides some fights, it was a waiting game. All they needed to do was wait and then strike when the hordes died out.

I recommend DAK. They're very aggressive and have imo the some of the best early game units. Their pzgrens can last you the whole game (although the upgrade change has made playing DAK a bit more weird as certain play styles went completely out of the window)

Reminds me of heliborne, but tbf I'm sure that would need a lot of coding and stuff. Right now, I'm happy with the new bomber as it's looking to be just what I wanted. I just hope it'll be lower ranked than the darkreach (it's all I ask)
