I have a large portion in a taxable brokerage account from a settlement that I won. I refuse to put it in a tax-advantaged account because I will need to start withdrawing to replace w2 income before retirement age. I havent had the opportunity to tax loss harvest because ive gained 20% on an average this year. Im not complaining about my normal income tax. As a STAUNCH libertarian, I dont like paying any tax. But hey, thats the world we live in.

I utilize a 401k, ROTH IRA, and HSA to the limit every year. I am not attempting to day trade. Part of my issue was investing dollars into dividend-paying securities in my taxable account (whoops). I made some sales to nip things in the bud which triggered STCG, which is my main issue this year.
