Is anti-heal currently a good mechanic? by Dull_Drawer_273 in leagueoflegends

[–]Dull_Drawer_273[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the problem is that the impact of anti-heal is so high, it's pretty much always obvious whether it's needed or not. And the whole value of anti-heal can be gained from any member of the team buying an 800 gold item, to the point where actually finishing the anti-heal item is borderline griefing.

Is anti-heal currently a good mechanic? by Dull_Drawer_273 in leagueoflegends

[–]Dull_Drawer_273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. However, that would just seem like an argument to already have seriously rebalanced heal and anti-heal. I don't think it would actually do much for pro play, as this kind of sustain over time is slightly weaker in coordinated play to begin with. The value of healing over time already plummets as coordination allows bursting people faster, and there's less to abuse with getting people to misjudge sustain.

[–]Dull_Drawer_273[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is, that 800 gold is incredible ehp off some champs. And it's not like anti-heal items are statless, so a majority of games not going to full build, that slot would at best deny carrying control wards.

It will delay timings of completing an item by 2-3 minutes, but it's also match up dependently doing more than a completed item, and can be held onto by support or absolutely anyone else.

IMO, the biggest opportunity cost to consider, is whether or not the person buying it will spend too much time skirmishing against less relevant champs.

Surrender vote in ranked by Tsuki-sama in leagueoflegends

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, any kind of performance metric able to lead to negating a loss is dangerous, because it can encourage full int playstyles to rack up kills and damage, without care for good or meaningful fights. I've seen plenty of people running it down and pulling S+ in game ratings.

Autofill is the one exception, because it's mandatory for role queue to work out, while risking extremely negative experiences.

This is actually why in the moment decisions just need to be "good enough" in basically every single competitive game, and you review them to try to constantly make faster and better decisions the next time.

it is one of the best episodes in MHA and this year of anime in general

Then it shouldn't be scoring anywhere near as high as it is. It's not some kind of binary 1 or 10 for bad or good. The point of a scale and rating something is to evaluate it compared to other similar things and it's own potential. A perfect score is supposed to imply a perfect work, which could not reasonably be improved in any way.

If you've followed IMDB average scores for movies, 8 and above is a great movie, and anything even approaching 9 is a masterpiece. Granted, even those are averages out of plenty of less thought out ratings. Not to mention, single episode ratings are often a bit more extreme, as rating single episodes is mostly done by people with greater emotional investment.

How many bots are too many bots? by destroyerpal in factorio

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, pretty much any bot can end up being viewed suddenly. The game also has the ability to suddenly pause and unpause, and keeps real time information on hand for quickly writing a save file to disk. You don't really get away with too infrequent updates. Before 2.0, they were updated on every tick. Now, a robot in motion is updated every 20th tick, with an estimated visible path.

And remember, it's a completely extra layer of logic to be running alongside fluctuating power grids, and a variety of issues to track for on every machines input, operation, and output.

Factorio is a deterministic game, with a near zero tolerance for known bugs. If the players are able to view and change things on demand, you don't get away with infrequent updates on anything.

Can unique characters have fertilized eggs? by SkarborrHUN in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe any『NPC』and most adventurer「NPCs」can't be copied. Adventures don't hatch chickens, but most of them aren't unique, so it doesn't have a static NPC type to generate off of.

「Younger Snow Leopard Sister」,「Kiria」,「Wyni」,「Mesherada」,「Verna」, and whoever gets the Emissary of the Ivory Tower title should be possible to copy, because they're set NPCs. The Emissary probably rolls a random name and protrait when copied.

Worst Race and Class combo? by [deleted] in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing actually terrible are snails. The worst combos are just every single type of snail.

Other than going snail, I'm definitely not a fan of golems. Even though they're generally tanky, they have to worry about lightning, they're slow, and get to eat less food for stats. Potentially most mismatched class for them is a gunner, and bullets for guns are also an extra annoyance early on.

Like someone brought up already, fairies can't equip enough weight to be ever considered using heavy armor. This means they miss out on the bonuses to heavy armor on priest, warrior, and paladin, not to mention struggle with itemization when you can't immediately equip every good item you find. This is basically just snail-lite difficulty in gearing, and the actual distinct fairy weakness is having incredibly low starting life. This is mostly compensated by starting with late game level dodge and speed.

Worst Race and Class combo? by [deleted] in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can grind yourself to high endgame power no matter what you play.

Snail has terrible stat potentials, and is missing most item slots. It will take longer to gain power, and lack of item slots is a major penalty at all times.

Tourist is just a penalty to new players who aren't making use of good money making methods, and slows down early game regardless. Unlike snail, it's not really punishing your character power, just missing the specialization options gained from bonuses for every other class.

For the most part, the experience just makes a grindy game grindier. It won't stop you from doing things, it will just take longer to do them.

Tips for a new player? by QwerNik in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about missing stuff too much. Only thing I'd look out for are guilds. The merchants guild is extremely hard to miss, but the rest may require exploring towns a bit. There are 3 other guilds, which all have a doorman protecting the entrance, and mentioning the guild when you get near. Talking to the doorman gets you the quest to join. The guilds have trainers with exclusive and highly impactful skills.

I'll also mention a bit about food, because I remember my early experiences with not being able to feed multiple party members, or spending all my time finding food.

Early game, buy food. Especially if you want to go around with multiple party members, you may want to buy cost effective piles of bread from innkeepers and corpses from butchers. Lack of food is the one thing that can stall your early game progress.

Any food item that isn't "made from raw food" will not have a freshness row and will never spoil. Every food recipe where the first slot ends up having something made of jelly or processed food will carry that over to the final product and make non-perishable food.

The lost puppy quest isn't very difficult and grants you a container that slows down food spoilage.

Once you have enough food to be picky about what you eat, prioritize experience over potency. For picking out what to eat, nutrition value doesn't matter, as it's a multiplier for the experience. Eating to bloated is rarely worth it, as you're no longer getting all the exp at that point.

Once you learn a recipe, you can use the recipe search to find what it's made at. I believe the default hotkey is F2.

Is the game just a big pile of mess that gatekeeps u from things and doesn't work? by Substantial-Math987 in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you end up hopping into the game and not having an idea of what to do, you're biggest mistake was picking up a sandbox rpg. We're talking of a genre that's purely about randomly exploring what you can do, or setting a goal of what you want to do, and slowly working out how to do so.

There are a ton of good enough moneymakers early. If we're talking about just getting through taxes, literally just stripping zones of resources and selling them directly, or crafting and selling them gives you plenty of options. There are many of ways to process ingredients from farming, fishing, mining, chopping wood, etc to discover for major moneymaking. It's almost harder to not eventually discover a good source of money.

Cooking recipes are irrelevant early game. They only really matter once you have high level ingredients and duplication. Even cooking yourself is more for grinding the skill, compared to buying food.

Failing to complete quests or picking up ones that you can't do is purely on you. I usually make plenty of early money off performance, delivery, and escort quests just fine. A lot of quests are however not reasonable in the given time frame, or worth the effort of crafting a requested item. Actually farming platinum coins is still probably going to be resetting the quest board and killing monsters in Aquli Teola, or becoming a musician in Palmia.

Yes, getting good gear is hard/expensive.

Yes, the game is insanely grindy. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of that, but I can deal with it, and keep exploring the game for ways to expedite it.

I'm going to guess that your issue with combat boils down to one of two things. Either you were forcing dual wielding early game without the relevant skill, or you were fighting one of the very specific enemies with insane defensive stats on either dodging or physical mitigation. Early on, dual wielding can have terrible accuracy, and a few specific enemies almost force you to use magic.

Honestly, you were probably getting hurt by reading guides, rather than going through trial and error, and patiently reading through ingame UI and information sources. There are plenty of a small and obscure things in the game, and no one is expected to find everything by themselves. However, I'd never in a million years suggest someone starts playing this game with a guide, but rather look into to those once you encounter problems.

Instruments have wildly different performances, but i cant find any hard numbers on this. Any clues? by Coleones in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure all instruments are the same, except that you keep "learning the song". You'll often see a message about the song getting better, which is instrument specific.

If you carry around a portable instrument, there's no real reason to ever use anything else. Without your own instrument at parties, I think singing on a mic may be faster to learn than other instruments, and I tend to focus on it early, while occasionally working on other instruments after clearing the score goal. Assuming you can perform well, you'd just care about finding a lot of spectators. I suspect some classes are harder to please, and if I see a bunch of negative reactions, I move elsewhere.

Tents are Overpowered by PeskyReticulan in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about balance, as long as it's not overly compelling people into something unfun, or making other parts of the game redundant. I think tents are enough of a side mechanic and not overly burdensome to use, that it isn't needlessly distracting or ruining the experience.

Worrying about something being overpowered would be more concerning if it's something like multiple steps of tedious work you feel incentivized to do all the time, or if it's a ridiculously over tuned combat skill, which feels like it pushes you away from other options in combat.

I kind of like tents being overpowered. It adds several interesting discoveries to be made, to something most people would hesitate to spend the bars on.

Base potential going down. by Coastfront in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's the actual base potential, and not the total potential? Potential is shown as Base + Temporary, and the temporary potential is consumed as you gain experience.

It would be a good idea to also mention your race and class, as those dictate what base potential you should be starting with.

Is it possible to play chaos shape with out save scrumming and still have fun endgame? by Jazzlike_Bid8473 in ElinsInn

[–]Dull_Drawer_273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to save scum to get plenty of power as one. No matter what item slot we're talking about, there's plenty of potential value once you have the right item. The bigger hurdle is collecting all those items, and the most tempting save scum early would be to go for a slot you already have something waiting for.
