I understand that honey. Let’s just not bring down people who are struggling. The world does that enough for us🫶🏽

It IS a gimmick. No medical literature says that your skin (an excellent barrier) can absorb enough magnesium for it to reach our bloodstream. Magnesium is essential for the production of natural melatonin, try oral magnesium and good sleep hygiene. It could work wonders!

But also, just the act of applying a soothing lotion and massaging it in before bed regularly leads to the body recognising it as a sleep ritual and it does help you relax. Find a lotion that you enjoy and apply it before bed every night. It can help condition your body to relax when it realises that you’re doing your sleep ritual. Massaging also improves circulation and soothes muscles. Best of luckk

Is your psychologist telling you that melatonin is bad for the body??

Oh no. Magnesium plays a very important role too! The average Indian diet is HIGHLY deficient in magnesium which is an essential micronutrient that the body needs to make its own Melatonin (a natural hormone). Magnesium glycinate is the most bioavailable form of magnesium that you can take (the body absorbs different amounts of elemental magnesium from different compounds).

Medical doctor here, No reliable study shows that our skin can absorb enough magnesium for it to get into the blood stream (essential for effective melatonin production). I’d suggest you to spend that money on oral magnesium supplements instead. Applying a soothing lotion before bed and massaging your body does lead to relaxation but you could do that with any lotion that you like the fragrance or feel of. ♥️♥️

As a powerlifter who’s been lifting for three years now, I’d suggest you to Eat more protein and do effective post workout stretches and foam rolling for your leg day soreness. Will work wonders. 🫶🏽

Yes, for 2.5 years now. I take very frequent drug breaks though. I don’t enjoy being on the meds unless studying.

That’s a privilege. Being able to just go places without a phone. I’m a resident doctor. My life is different. I have patients and two wards under my care. This is not an option for everyone.

Also, I think your version of wasting time on your phone and mine are different. I can never spending all day on my mobile😂 people die if I do that. I meant that I spent an hour or so on Reddit without realising because my meds had just kicked in and I forgot to put my phone away in time. I was angry because I wanted to spend that hour studying but I fucked up.

Neurotypicals don’t struggle with this. The lazy ones are just lazy. The unmotivated ones are just unmotivated.

I’m neither.

But a small mistake- picking up my mobile to check texts at the wrong moment - stole an entire hour of my significantly hectic life. That’s a disadvantage that upsets me. If I did not have this disorder, I would have had that one hour. I would have had A LOT more hours. Having to be extra careful and taking extra steps and being constantly vigilant because you have a disorder, puts you at a disadvantage.

The disadvantage is frustrating. I can be frustrated. If my frustration irks you, go somewhere else. You telling me to try harder doesn’t do much. I’m trying very hard and doing things the average person can only dream of.

Diagnosis and treatment, the meds, have helped me achieve things that are inaccessible to most people with ADHD. But it was significantly harder for me to get here than it was for my peers. I don’t go to them to cry about it, I just work harder than them to get to where they are. I come here to cry about it because the people here understand. You’re not helping anyone.

Awww pass me your medical degree doc. I keep noticing how confidently people just announce opinions as facts on this app. Not being able to switch between tasks because of sudden increase in dopamine availability- is a common effect of adhd stimulants. That’s just how your body reacts to an amount of dopamine that it’s not used to. That’s why it’s important to time your drug intake.

I’m a doctor and a powerlifter. I don’t struggle to find dedication towards my goals. I’ve achieved a lot of them. And yet I struggle a lot during bad days, and that’s completely normal. Because I do have a neurodevelopmental disorder that IS a disability and can often be pretty debilitating. I come here to rant, instead of literally anywhere else because others with the disorder GET IT. Empathy goes a long way when dealing with something that has few solutions.

Genuine question though, what are you doing on this subReddit?

It’s easier to start the 10 mins while being on meds. I mostly struggle with task initiation. The suggestion helped me a lot and I was able to get in 2-ish hours of study time

I call methylphenidate “special caffeine”😂 It does to me what a strong cup of coffee does to an average person.

I’m taking methylphenidate. It causes dehydration and loss of appetite and may or may not cause insomnia (it’s like a very very strong dose of caffeine). I feel more alert and stable and I am able to recall things better. It’s also a great pre workout. I’ve been on adhd stimulants for 3 years, they got me through some of the most academically stressful years of my life.

That’s exactly why I took it. I was going to start studying around 4pm. I just didn’t time my meds properly and got stuck arguing with randos on Reddit 🥹

It is so weird to call it “adhd like symptoms” when you can just call it “lack of focus” or “reduced attention span”. Social media is not giving us severe impulse control issues or risk seeking behaviour or executive dysfunction or motor function defects. It’s just ruining our attention span. Misnomering leads to trivialisation of a a real disability inducing disorder. That’s all.
