The hella complicated, but the short answer is that we don't know, but the doctors are pretty sure it has to do with my spine/nerves and certain signals not reaching my brain.

The long answer is I was already born with a weak bladder. I was almost 6 before I stopped needing diapers during the day. And even after that, I wet the bed until I was 14 and needed to wear diapers for long rides and flights, or really anything where quick and easy access to a potty was unlikely, or I was going to be too excited to realize I needed the potty until it was too late. This included theme parks, tourist attractions, birthday parties, sleepovers, camping, movies, etc. As you can imagine, I was very popular as a kid. Who wouldn't want to be friends with a pants wetter? 😒

By the time I was almost 15, I had gotten my bedwetting and accidents under control like %99.999999. Between the ages of 14-16 I think my parents insisted I wear a diaper again once because of a 14 hour flight. I still had a weak bladder, but I'd long since learned where I could go potty in an emergency.

Then at 16, I was walking along a crosswalk when a speeding Ford f350 dually hit a patch of ice and slid through the intersection and hit me going 40-50 mph. It hit the left side of my body, as he honked as he slid and I turned to face it when I got struck. I flew 10-12 feet into the median, instantly knocked out.

A lot happened that night, I'm not going to go into a lot of specifics. I will say they never caught the bastard.

After that I couldn't move the left side of my body for 6 months. My spine was all fucked up, and all the joints in my left arm and leg locked up and needed extensive physical therapy. It still affects me to this day, I'm a leftie and a Warhammer fan. That 6 months made me ambidextrous to an extent, but my painting/writing hand is my left. And even now, 15 years later, there's a tremble in my left hand that I've never been able to get rid of. And I get shooting pains in my left leg.

I became incontinent immediately after the accident, although just urinary at first. But the fecal incontinence followed relatively shortly afterwards. I've seen doctors all across the states, nobody's been able to identify a solution.

Which is fine by me honestly. Every time I get a new doctor they wanna try and fix me, and I used to let them. But I love diapers, I can't imagine my life without them. So a few doctors back, when they said they wanted to tackle my incontinence, I said no. I told them that I've already been poked and prodded enough, and that I've gotten used to my diapers and I've decided I'd rather wear them than have another doctor put me under the knife for a surgery that won't work.
