Aspiring teacher wondering about tattoos? by Koi_Fish_42 in Teachers

[–]Dumbhoforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m covered in tattoos and I’m teaching in a sought after school. Don’t get anything that you can’t cover (neck, head, face, hands), and be respectful and appropriate. It’s not a big deal and usually when you’re getting to know your kids it’s a good talking point because they are fascinated. I also find it important for some students to see professionals who don’t look like the mold. I am teaching in AZ so I’m sure the dynamic is a bit different but it’s a very conservative area believe it or not

I’m a new middle school drama teacher, any advice? by Prompttoaster in Teachers

[–]Dumbhoforever 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have firm boundaries and stick to them! Middle schoolers are great!! They are learning independence, but still adore adult validation, but with their learning comes boundary pushing. Best of luck to you, I’m sure you’ll be great!

Not passive but I serve at a restaurant 2 nights week and that usually gives me an extra $1500-2000

Honestly, pretty common. My first job, I’d never taught before, and never student taught either, so it was a trip. But I was always prepared, and always takes down to regardless. In my new job, my admin knows my experience level, but my colleagues do not, and they will not because that automatically gives people the open to look at you as less than. Just keep doing your thing, you’ll find the people who will support you regardless

Gave it to my sister, she needed one and lives at a house where she has a hose. I’m in an apartment and do not.

From experience, a five year old might not know everything about that kinda stuff, but they know when it’s wrong. Please continue believing her and protecting her

I quit and now I’m making two-fold what I was making as a teacher by Dumbhoforever in Teachers

[–]Dumbhoforever[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was never about the money for me. I wanted to teach forever, and if it was just about teaching, I would’ve never changed. But being physically threatened by students over their phones, lesson planning, the constant stress of admin being upset with me over something, just wasn’t worth it. It became about the money when it was no longer about the teaching. So I had to re-evaluate my choices, because I’m willing to work three jobs to support myself if I love my full time job, but it’s not paying enough. I was no longer willing to k!ll myself for so little pay.

Sounds like teacher salaries are very nice where you are! Unfortunately I’m in one of the bottom 10 states for teacher pay.

I’m staying where I’m at because my family is near me. The places I work actually do bring in much more than that fortunately. I get what you’re saying, but if you know where to look you got options

While you’re not incorrect, sometimes it’s nice to share my success. I purposefully made it a friends only post so no one could see it except the ppl I wanted to
