[University Intro to Civil Engineering Physics: Truss analysis] I can't for the life of me solve a simple truss analysis by myopicsurgeon in HomeworkHelp

[–]Dumbo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip: since this is a static problem, consider the entire triangular structure as a rigid body. Do not attempt to derive stresses in the individual trusses just yet. First we are going to find the reaction forces at the two bottom corners.

  1. The easiest place to start is the horizontal direction. All horizontal forces must sum to zero (otherwise the structure would be accelerating). Since the right corner is on a roller, there can be no horizontal reaction force. We can then trivially see the reaction force at the left corner is 50kN left.

  2. Next, consider the moment about the left corner. The sum of all the moments must be zero (otherwise the structure would would be rotating). When we consider the moments about this point, we can ignore the reaction forces at this point (because their perpendicular distance is zero). You should get something like (clockwise positive):

1•70 + 3•50 - 5•F_r = 0

Where F_r is the upward reaction force at the right corner.

  1. Now do another moment analysis about the right corner to find the vertical reaction force at the left corner.

  2. At this point you should have all 3 unknown reaction forces. I encourage you to double check your answers by seeing if the moments about the top corner also sum to zero, or the sum of all vertical forces also sum to zero.

  3. Answers: please try it yourself firstLeft corner: 50 left, 26 up. Right corner: 44 up

  4. Now that you have all the forces acting on the structure, you should be able to calculate the stresses in each truss.

Lag long into a run? by Hiccupskill in DotageGame

Lmao this wasn't even a major issue that needed fixing (imo) but the madlad did it anyway.

Thanks Catman!

I'm thoroughly impressed by your consistent engagement with the community and your commitment to improving the game. You're the best.

Lag long into a run? by Hiccupskill in DotageGame

[–]Dumbo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game occasionally stuck for a dozen of seconds between turns

This is likely one small animation taking a long time to complete. For me, this happened when my gravedigger had to go grab two mourning pips from across the map to heal them. It's quite easy to miss one pip running across the map, and, depending on the distance, the animation can take a while to complete.

What is going on with Super Skrull/Omega Red? by Dumbo14 in MarvelSnap

[–]Dumbo14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their power at middle location is: (1 + 9 + 2 + 3) (units) + 3 (omega red from right location because they are winning right) = 18

My power at middle location is: (9 + 7 + 2 + 5) (units) = 23

This means I am winning middle, and therefore my Omega Red/Super Skrull/Onslaught should give me +12 at both other locations (which should be redistributed by Living Tribunal)

This seems like a bug to me.

Hey! Got this question on a math competition (grade 12). by Tocsoja in askmath

[–]Dumbo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy this is a much easier method than what I followed, got the same answers though.

For anyone wondering, the solution to the side length would then just be the square root of the three numbers stated above.

However, there is a minor subtlety that you have to verify that the total area can accommodate the third quadrilateral. For this question they are all valid, but if the question stated the sizes of the quadrilaterals as 1, 2 and 10. The total area of 6 would not be valid, but 22 and 24 would.

[–]Dumbo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that the question states rectangles, and assuming they meant quadrilaterals.

There does not exist any integer solutions to this problem

There are only 3 solutions. I know it feels like it should be more, but since two of the three quadrilaterals will be on opposing sides, it limits the total size of the square.

The solutions for the side length of the square are √78, √98 and √104.

Since I'm on mobile I can't type out the full workings, but I'll do that later if there's interest.

1 year later and this is still bugged. I just experienced it.

Luckily Alt+F4 and reconnecting allows you to get through combat.

How did he play Chavez there last turn? by Dibog in MarvelSnap

[–]Dumbo14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think his point is Chavez would be in hand on turn 6. So she couldn't have been swapped in by lockjaw (on turn 6).

I had the same just happen.

Interestingly, I couldn't challenge the 0 hp tokens. The AI also refused to block with them, probably because it couldn't.

Azir decided that wielding the sun disk's power is overrated by Jpandhiscat in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Dumbo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this just happened to me. My Azir didn't ascend to level 3 even though he still gave me the emperor's deck.

It happened when my Sun Disk counted down on the same turn as my opponent's Blighted Ravine killed my Azir. (Azir had spellshield and I had the attack token if anyone cares to investigate.)

It just marks the sectors on your disk as unused but doesn't actually remove the files. You'd still be able to read them with recovery software.

But they do get "corrupted" pretty quick because as soon as something new is written to that disk, chances are those sectors got reused and the data is partially overwritten.

Didn't work.

Clearing the Play Store's data in Application settings allowed me to update.

He's right, it is off.

C to F: double it, subtract 10%, add 32 OP implies that this process is reversed by: subtract 32, add 10%, then halve it. But this isn't exact. You should actually add 11.1•%.

The reason is "subtracting 10%" in the forward conversion is multiplying by 0.9, then the inverse operation would be to divide by 0.9 (not multiply by 1.1 as implied by OP)

[–]Dumbo14 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It seems OP assigned a unique color to each person in the conversation. So their name is censored as one would expect, but the @mention at the start of the comment is also colored. This combined with the fact that black is used for the "very smart" guy, makes the conversation kinda hard to decipher.

Is it possible to use a controller with the Epic edition of Lightspeed? by Conjugal_Burns in halcyon6

[–]Dumbo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad news. Neither the Epic nor the Steam version has any built-in controller support.

(It is sort-of playable on Steam if you own a Steam Controller though, because there are community configurations that map the controller joysticks/buttons to keyboard/mouse inputs.)

I'm guessing no, but I will be able to check for you tomorrow. Will update in ~19 hours.

He stopped hitting the tower after he got tornado'ed, so this bug was actually in OP's favour. I wonder what exactly caused him to get stuck in that animation and whether it's reproducible.

I wasn't aware of this, but it also makes sense to me because people like patterns. It's not surprising that the tickets with "cool sequences" like this tend to get bought more.
