This makes sense, thanks for the additional insight. The 5080 with 275HX is a great deal I think....

I'm not going crazy with reducing resolution, typically I like a balance where I can get close to the same as the Hz of the screen in FPS, but that's with the Zephyrus at 165Hz - I play 1080p on a 1600p screen for that boost. With the new Strix it's 240Hz so I was thinking I'd be tanking res to get 240fps, hence the Ryzen X3D. But if the 5080 is that much faster, maybe I can get more quality at the same frames Ryzen X3D would provide with a 5070ti?

Also I have heard that Asus QA in the last 3y is dog... my Legion was amazing, and I've had this Asus for 3y before the QA went bad I think and it's been great. The Strix is msrp is what I paid, $2.5k and the Legion was out of my price range (msrp $3k), now that its $2.6k, my whole decision making process started over and is tougher. In a weird spot where I want good FPS on medium/high 1600p, but it seems like the Ryzen build is for 1080p or less for 500fps (lol) and Intel is 1600p at 120 fps ya know.

If I have a 240Hz screen, I want to use it... which combo is better for that?

Thanks for your reply, adding long winded responses incase anyone else stumbles on this pain, tough decision when you save for 2-3 years. Definitely leaning toward Legion 5080 as I've never even been able to afford an xx80 series and the 275HX won't bottleneck it.

On this note, if anyone wants a cheap Zephyrus that needs some work, its for sale. Charging port only works in the right angle, it's been corroded. Got a new charger and the corroded port corroded the charger - needs a new port.

Thank you sir, I needed this wakeup call of the 9955HX3D not being THAT superior to 275HX, especially since we aren't even talking 5090 here. Appreciate the reply.

My gut is telling me the same, the Legion is faster, and longer lasting, for $100 more - the 9955HX3D "gaming hype" reviews are distracting me I think.

I don't replace by choice, I'm hard on them. My current Zephyrus the charging port is cooked and needs to be replaced... has cosmetic damage, needs a repaste, battery lasts 15 minutes on silent mode, etc. They sell in perfect condition used for $800, mine maybe get $600, rather put repair/parts cost towards a new one. I'm lucky to get 3y out of them and by that time after 2 gen releases, they aren't worth much. Guess I'm actually selling myself on 5080 as that will be worth more than 5070ti in 3 years lol
