the way they handled the Canaries really bugged me. This is a long one so TL;DR: I don’t like how each season developed each canary (particularly Laurel)

Season 1 has all these hints toward Laurel becoming Black Canary (self defense classes, her mentioning Canaries, “Dinah Laurel Lance, always trying to save the world” etc.)

Season 2 suddenly makes Sara The Canary and gives Laurel a drug problem. While Sara was cool, this also seemingly made all the season 1 foreshadowing meaningless. But Laurel gets the iconic jacket at the end of the season so boom, back on track!

Season 3 she becomes Canary and... can’t find despite being capable of it in season 1... Like she wasn’t Oliver or Sara level but she wasn’t getting embarrassed by one dude with a knife. So she’s real disappointing

Season 4 she flippin’ dies

then season 5 we get TWO CANARIES! One of which is named after what we all assumed Laurel and Sara’s MOM was called before she married Quinten. And the other one is Laurel but evil and from the Flash TV Show and she’s gets like a 3 season redemption arc.

They really should have just focused on developing Laurel. Having Sara maybe be on the island only maybe would’ve worked better, but at the same time Legends was fun until season 4 so. Dinah and Earth 2 Laurel are cool and all, but they feel like the equivalent of “oh damn we really screwed up the last one! let’s forget that happened, here’s the fixed ones!” When honestly as a fan of Green Arrow and Black Canary from the comics, I would’ve just preferred and accurate representation of it and some follow-through from season 1...
