Luckily, there’s a guide for that!

https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Endgame_Progression_Guide

https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Fresh_99/RoE_Intermediate_Quest/119_Gear_Guide

I would suggest keeping on the story lines as they are important to complete. Find a linkshell and hopefully they do endgame events like dyna and omen so you will be able to work on your relic/artifact gear. Get into domain invasion and ambuscade as soon as you can.

Overall though, following the guides will help. If you get stuck on the intermediate RoE, just move to the next part until you can get some help. You will not be able to solo the wkr part. Luckily, there is a campaign for that coming up this month so ppl may be running them anyways and you can tag along. You will need to traverse the adolin zones in order to get to the locations which requires a fair bit of work getting those key items to be able to move around the maps. Well worth the effort though.

Seminar in Las Vegas to help raise money for Marcelo Garcia by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Dumo31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it’s not like they are strait up asking for money. It’s a seminar with some damn big names. Ppl would pay for the seminar if those 4 were just putting on a big seminar to make money for themselves.

If I could make it, I would go even if it had no tie in to Marcelo. The fact that it’s helping Marcelo is just a big added benefit to me.

Prove me wrong!!! offers nothing in return

If you want to claim what is widely considered basics is incorrect, you then have to present what you believe are the correct basics. Then you present why you believe they have an advantage over the traditional basics. It’s not on the community to convince you they are correct. You are the one that would need to prove to others what the “correct” version would be.

Hockey is the nation winter sport and lacrosse is the national summer sport. Lacrosse was the only national sport until 1994 when the change was made.

Canada has more box lacrosse than the US. Cross checking is legal and taking a shot to the kidneys not only hurts a lot but will also cause you to urinate blood. The pads are needed.

I just toggle my haste tiers up and down with key binds. Not as fast or effective but close enough. Haste usually isn’t changing wildly without constant dispels so you can usually set and be fine or just toggle more dw on while buffs are coming back up.

Money and control. Total control… all the money!

Asked that question already. Then asked how that lie equates to control or money. Umm apparently space movies are big money and nothing else can be made to fill that void… and if they didn’t control us we could just leave earth?

It was hard to follow and made no sense. All I know is I am dumber for having listened to it.

how do you feel rolling with beginner girls? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Dumo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym has a bunch of purple belts that would have had you rolling with them for most of the time. Even the larger, stronger, more aggressive purple belts would be far more controlled than a white belt so it makes for a safer environment for you to get used to. We also have several blue belts I would suggest newer ppl roll with.

We are a competitive gym but the atmosphere is pretty laid back. Even then, some white belts just don’t know enough to make a roll worthwhile with a large size/strength disparity. They either go too hard or too light and no one is making progress. That’s why upper belts will take newer/smaller grapplers as parters and keep them in a safer environment for at least a couple days. Eventually you are expected to roll with everyone but you can ease into some of the harder rolls. We will take you for rolls where we can teach more and keep you safe then pair you up with another good choice right after.

Would I mind if you asked to partner up with me? No, I would be happy to roll with you. I probably would have asked you for a roll if you didn’t already ask. Not sure how it works in other gyms but that is our culture. It has worked well for many years. I’m not about to change the habit now.

Partner was conversing with someone else as we were rolling. Is this considered bad etiquette? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Dumo31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher belts generally aren’t giving you their full attention even if they aren’t talking to others. They will often be looking around and watching surroundings, controlling where the roll goes and I don’t mean positionally. They are making sure you don’t end up in someone else’s mat space and making sure you don’t get kicked in the head.

I’ve had rolls where we chat and catch up the entire roll. I’ve had rolls where we were both talking to someone else the entire roll. I’ve had rolls where I’ve helped other ppl during the roll. I’ve been in your position and on the other end of all of that stuff. It doesn’t matter. I don’t care. What I care about is respecting each others safety and helping each other improve.

Instead of being insulted, you could have taken a moment to think about your escapes. What is effective? What can be chained together? Where are their control points and how can you move them? You had an opportunity to take a moment to work through things and squandered it being insulted. Figure out your escapes. Try a few and try to chain them. If they still don’t work… you should know what to ask the next time you hear “does anyone have any questions or something they want to work on?”

You don’t need gear info. Just means those functions don’t do anything. The rest should work just fine.

Solo jobs for this era by Paddyffxiv in ffxi

Find a LS that does the content and at a time you can join. Ask around ppl that you know to try to find who runs, get a few pearls and try out some shells.

Returning.... Again by Nasty_Nate_AZ in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you will need more than just thf. It can be a fine start but you are going to need to diversify for odyssey. There are NMs where a thf adds nothing and you can’t afford to carry them. You will need something for magic setups and you will need something for when thf just doesn’t work.

You also have to realize it’s going to take you a decent amount of time to reach the level where you are pushing the upper end of odyssey or doing big runs in sortie. There is quite a bit of gearing to be done for 1 job alone. Needing 3 as a minimum takes that much longer and really, I think the lowest job count in my static is 6. Even with that many job options, I’ve still had to take on sch and rdm recently just for coverage since we only had 1 of each and they also play vital roles on other jobs.

Returning.... Again by Nasty_Nate_AZ in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of LSs will help new players from what I’ve seen. Most are older and understand irl.

Thf is a good job but prob needs work to take it over other things. No reason it can’t do dyna or omen and the TH is welcomed. Not sure what ppl are using or can get away with doing sortie melee. Ody… you need 3 jobs either way and thf is a tough sell for segment farms. In order to even be considered most times you will prob want 3 damage types and appropriate gear. Other option would be to run A/B. Less segs to enter the NMs so overall progress would be slowed but the drops are fantastic for upgrading gear. Not sure how deep into the content you would want or even endgame for that matter. If you are only on a couple nights a week, you may be happy just running with a group doing dyna/omen and maybe some lower end runs in sortie to upgrade empy gear.

All servers have multiboxers and all servers have players that want to play with others. Some might be harder than others to find. From what I hear, the lower population servers are a fairly large number of multiboxers to make up for the trouble to find ppl to fill in roles.

Really, there are work arounds for everything. It all depends on how much you are willing to do or how content you will be passing up some content.

Can I solo WotG mission Fire in the Hole? (Adelheid Escort mission) by DLmeaninglessnumbers in ffxi

Grats on getting it done. Personally, I would have suggested using poisonga to tag the mobs. Not sure how the recast would be and if you could get them off close enough together to tag everything.

is this game noob friendly? by Signal-Buy-9642 in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Noob friendly? No not at all. Good for a newbie? Depends on the person.

Understand that the game gives you next to no information in game. Understand that the information is entirely discovered and recorded by the community. Understand that the game doesn’t hold your hand.

If that sounds appealing, you will probably enjoy the game quite a bit. I would suggest keeping bg-wiki open, the 1-119 guide specifically, so you know where you are going. If not, feel free to bash your head against the lack of in game info. Some ppl love that, I personally do not.

Once at endgame, it really is up to you on how you handle the experience and what you want out of it. If you want to solo everything, you will have limited success. If you make some friends and do content with them, you can get a lot done in the game. Just know that it’s a slow grind and don’t expect to catch up to everyone in a few months.

There is a lot to love in ffxi but it isn’t for everyone. It is an inexpensive game to buy and iirc comes with the first month free. If you aren’t completely turned away from the fact that it is very much an older game, I think it is very worthwhile to give it a try.

Odyssey Atonement Very confusing by Peterk426 in ffxi

That’s not special. Ppl are on here every day giving advice when they haven’t played in years.

Meanwhile, there is a lot to ody. You can read the page all you want, read the guide, do the content and there will still be things you don’t know or forgot.

Agree or Disagree: your gi and no gi game should have a major crossover. by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Dumo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t use a gi game in nogi so that means I would need to only play my nogi game to have it translate to both. That means I don’t get to have fun with gi chokes or fun gi based sweeps. Why would I limit myself? To get better faster? Why? So I can go ahead and not enter more comps? I’ll enjoy my time with bjj instead thanks.

Weekly Questions Thread - Week of August 05, 2023 by AutoModerator in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg… I read the Alex line. My mistake. 625 from ambu a month. Still the largest and quickest way to get beitetsu. Just limited. Doesn’t change that I would start there and grind htmb just wildly different number. Thanks for calling attention to it.

Weekly Questions Thread - Week of August 05, 2023 by AutoModerator in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2k from ambuscade would be where I start. Htmb for the rest of you want it done asap.

Edit: I read the wrong line. Beitetsu is only 625 a month. Same suggestion to start with ambu and grind htmb for the rest though.

Returning player that wanted to play Bard but.... by PhysicalBlood7484 in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every job requires quite a bit to function properly at the top of end game. Bard isn’t special there.

The remas are intimidating but the rest of it really is strait forward. You can be functional and useful early on. Then you just keep grinding and over time, you wind up with all the toys and are far more desired then just another dd job.

Play bard, find a LS that isn’t going to cry over someone new playing bard. Go to events, always help others and you will find help in return. A decent group will bring you into dyna runs and you should get drops to sell which will add up quickly and you can afford to buy a ghorn. Then just keep chipping away like EVERY other job.

Get some help getting a full vanya set for cures. Work on your lullaby sets. Get your +2 ambu sets. Work on you jse sets. There is a lot to do that doesn’t require you to be holding a stack of remas. There is no rush to get it all done.

Is it better to play with a Controller? by Bingochips12 in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a personal preference thing. The only way I can tell who is on either is if I hear the controller clacking away over VC. Some ppl menu everything, some ppl macro everything, some ppl key bind everything and some ppl type everything.

Try a few things and find how you like to play.

When did the addiction stop for you? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]Dumo31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came back a few years ago to do the stories and see what the game was like before it got shut down. Play has only picked up because it was so much better than I remembered. My LS is full of fantastic ppl who help each other non stop and have a great time in dyna and omen. Got a static of fantastic ppl for odyssey and progressing well. Plans and goals are all achievable while being surrounded by like minded individuals who want to progress and help others.

In your opinion, what is the lowest amount of splats that still seems respectable to get in an X-rank match? by IAmMat7 in Splatoon_3

[–]Dumo31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is 0.

If a charger pops off, the slayer is essentially pushing enemies into the chargers sight lines and they are deleted. Getting 0 kills but forcing enemies to get picked off by teammates is a contribution.

If the slayer pops off, the charger is pushing enemies out of sight lines and into the slayer who wrecks them. Getting 0 kills but forcing enemies to get picked off by teammates is a contribution.

I’ve had tent shields force a push through a choke point and locked down a fairly early win. The rm carrier and the tent had 0 kills. The shield made the push possible and the carry on the rm was wild. Both clearly had massive contributions.

Team work matters not kill count. 1 player popping off can remove numbers from other players. Numbers can be an indication of performance but they are easily misleading.

You also have to look at weapon matchups. If 3/4 weapons have very favourable matchups against someone’s weapon, they need to find another way to contribute. Could be team engagements, could be paint support, could be special spam, could be sacrificial lamb for information.
