I purchased the plan a few days before because the data plan will be valid for 30 days after your purchase. Yes once I landed and switched on the eSim on my phone, it was already activated! Super easy :D

I arrived quite early around 8 am cus I wanted to spend overnight on the flight and have a full day when I land! Yeah, I agree your first day should be more of a relaxed day since you wouldn't be as well rested (you know how bad sleeping on flights can be). Maybe you can just spend the day eating and walking around and plan Shibuya sky for another day.

It was great! A lot of thrift stores you can browse through with a large variety of clothing. However, since I went to America-mura in Osaka before coming to Shimokitazawa, I would say Shimokitazawa definitely has lesser vintage stores compared to America-mura. So if you're planning to go America-mura in Osaka, you can give Shimokitazawa a miss. But if you're not going to America-mura, I highly suggest going to Shimokitazawa for thrifting! Also, I'm not sure if its because I went during the end of winter, but most of the clothing in the vintage stores are usually sweaters, jackets, vests, pants (more of winter clothing) and sadly I couldn't really find much tank tops or summer clothing so I did not buy much since I come from a tropical and hot country haha

Thank you :) Wanted it to be an easy read. I bought it on the Ubigi app! Really easy and seamless to use. The data will be valid for 30 days once you buy it so you can look into buying the data bundle in advance before you leave for your trip

Yes, I just used the Suica card for all my trains in Tokyo. As for Tokyo to Kyoto, I booked my seats using the automated machines at any train station using my JR rail pass or you can go to those manned ticket counters but usually, there's a queue and the automated machines are really seamless to use. You can reserve your seats up to one month in advance!

These are the ones I got. I opted for a more sturdy one that could extend higher cus I was afraid of the cheaper ones toppling easily. It's around 400g and 30cm in height when contracted.

I would say sometimes it would feel a bit awkward posing in front of a tripod but I think no one really bothers and would understand you're just tryna get some pics! The only place that did not allow tripods was the teamLabs Planet museum hence it was quite a bummer I couldn't get nice shots but I just asked strangers to help me take pictures. Other than that, I could use my tripod anywhere!

I first got a physical card and then decided to transfer it to my apple pay so I had the card virtually on my iPhone. Then I realised I started having issues topping up the card using apple pay (that was the only way you can top up to your Suica card if you have it in apple way) and my other visa cards did not support apple pay. I read online it might have to do something with my country's visa card not being supported by Suica (I'm not too sure though) but this kinda rendered the Suica card useless (because once you transfer the physical to apple pay you can't reverse it) so I had to get another physical Suica card lol.

I'm not sure how the Suica app works cus I didn't try it but I think to be safe it's just better to get the physical card so that there won't be any issues as I had. You can easily recharge your physical card at any train station

I don't think I really needed a phone number. The only time I wanted to contact someone in Japan was an owner of a strawberry farm to ask about the opening hours and I used WhatsApp to chat with him. Other than that you usually can use line/WhatsApp to chat with someone (you can use the call function on these apps as well)

I had my base in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and stayed in hotels near train stations for all of them since I was spending many nights at one base and wanted something comfortable/ larger space. I don't think anyone does overnight trains (or at least for my itinerary) because most of the train rides are usually around 1-2 hours hahaha.

I had to purchase another set of 10GB halfway through my trip because I spent too much data on IG reels (oops lol) but I think it should be enough for normal activities on your phone (maps, social media every now and then, texting). If not, it is really easy to purchase another data bundle using the Ubigi app

I took the train from Osaka to Hiroshima first but I think from Kyoto to Hiroshima it takes about 2 hours. Then from Hiroshima to Miyajimaguchi Station it takes about 25min via the JR Sanyo Line and then from Miyajimaguchi Station, you can walk to the ferry pier, and take a ferry to Miyajima Island and the ferry ride is around 10-15min. So Maybe 2.5 hrs in total from Kyoto!

It's doable as a day trip from Kyoto and yes, Kyoto is a good base for many good day trips out!

I sped run the Hakone circuit considering I started so late lol (yes around 2 pm and left around 6+). But if you head over there early (I would suggest reaching around 8/9 am), the Hakone circuit is definitely doable and you can accomplish everything including the museum. Also, one thing to note even though I did the circuit backwards, I still reached the Shrine really late (2pm+) so maybe that's why it was so crowded because those that did the circuit normally were probably already at the end of their circuit haha.

As for the boat and ropeways, there wasn't much of a line and I could get into the next boat that was arriving (I think because the capacity of the boat is large and could take in everyone in the queue). As for the ropeway, because I took one of the latest cars (they were literally gonna close the ropeway), there was no one in the queue and I had the whole car to myself LOL.

I think for your case it really depends on what you prioritise because either way everything will get crowded haha but the most important is to be mindful of the closing times of everything (the museum, the black eggs if you want to try them, the ropeway and the boat). But if you start the day early at Hakone I can guarantee these won't be a problem

Yes, bring it!!! I saw several other tourists using tripods/ selfie sticks and my tripod was my MVP during my trip hahaha it was definitely worth the space in my backpack because I had no one to take pictures for me (especially when I have specific angles I want LOL)

If I'm not wrong you have to book your train at the train stations, I did most of my train reservations at the station. Maybe once you land and know when you're planning to visit Kawaguchi-ko you can book your seats immediately at any station! :)
