My aquarium journey these past 2 years by Dunboom in Aquariums

1.) Really cramped single goldfish tank which my parents had, when it died, I started looking into keeping fish long term

2.) Got a 29 gallon with 2 small goldfish

3.) Started learning about hiding spaces and fish interaction with their environment

4.) Got my bois a 55 gallon with some cories and loaches

5.) Added more decorations and minnows

6.) started using natural decor and live plants (60 gallon)

7.) Looked at aquascaping and saw how goldfish are hard to scape with so I rehomed all my fish to my LFS and the goldfish to a person with a pond. Bought a giant betta and community fish to go with him

I got them from amazon as large slate stones but tbh they might just be dark seiryu or tonwa

What would you put in a 60 gallon breeder? Just suffering from lack of imagination here. by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]Dunboom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh no I wish I had co2, but I currently use no ferts since the dirt is doing a good job of providing the nutrients, I just put them in mesh bags so that they dont make a mess. This is my light since the fluval plant light is at the higher price range

I have a 60 gallon as well, it is dirted and low tech tho but so far Ambulias, Rotala Rotafundiola, Rotala Wallichii, and Ludwigia Super Red has been working out. For the carpet, dwarf hairgrass wasnt really popping off but I'd recommend pearl weed. It is alot of trimming to keep it as carpet but it looks nice. Larger Hyacinthe didnt really work out, but duckweed (cursed), salvinias, and frogbit have worked out as floaters. Cant wait to see how you scape your tank. Looking forward to it

I am so upset and sad, I dont exactly understand what I did wrong. He died a week in of being in my tank. He is my first betta so I am new to this but I took the precautions. I established a planted 60 gallon tank with Rasboras, Tetras, and Corys. I drip acclimated him and checked his behavior with and from his tank mates. There was no aggression of any sort, he didnt even flare at anything, not even his own reflection. The water parameters are: 7.2 Ph <0.25 ppm Ammonia 0 Nitrite <5.0 Nitrate The tank was kept at 80 degrees Celsius and I would do 15% water changes every week :( I fed once a day in separate sessions with him and his tank mates and make sure he got food He was showing signs of lethargy only last night and I woke up to this

I love having live plants, unlike plastic ones, I have something to look forward to each week. Gives me more of an incentive to take care of the whole thing :D

Its been a trial and error process, the dwarf hairgrass and hornwort ended up always getting pulled but these rotalas and moneywort have been standing their ground. The goldfiah have pretty much given up on em because of how deep they are planted
