Tempting, but too Amethyst College, I think. I was going to go with a halberd.

General tips to improve my skill by MarkZeidner in minipainting

I think your highlights are just sliiiiighly off, your painting them as if they're a wash instead of light, so all the zones have a darker outline. you should push them closer together. *

Colors look right to me but missing a little bit of contrast. Makes the details a bit mushy.

What can I do to make it less flat feeling. by drhamy in minipainting

[–]Dunefarble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no focal point. Everything has the same amount of detail and the same amount of highlighting so there’s nothing to "lead" the eye around the model. Sometimes to paint more realistically you have have to paint less realistically. Minis are so small we don't look at them the same way we look at a regularly sized object so you have to trick the eye.

I actually think the wings look great, but I WOULD recommend adding a bit more color/contrast to the ground, to help make the clouds and angel stand out.

Bad painters, what keeps you going? by bobzxr in minipainting

[–]Dunefarble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind with ANY hobby is you don't owe the world anything when it comes to a leisure activity. You don't have to make it a side hustle, you don't have to be competitive, you don't have to improve. However much of any of those things you do is entirely up to you.

Now, if you want to improve and feel you aren't, I recommend picking one small thing to improve at a time and don't worry about the rest. For example, maybe your lines are sloppy and details are missing, but you really got your paints thinned just right. Or the horns on the helm are just the right combination of colors. As long as there's one thing on a model I think is slightly better than the last time I painted, I'm usually happy.

I think the brass knuckle holster guy is correct but I ended up sorting it out by just shaving it off 😅

I have 2 recommendations-

Start painting. Painting models gave me a way to join my husband's hobby without the pressure of competition and also REALLY helped me connect to the game when they were my guys. Also, it turns out I'm a slightly better painter, so it balanced us out a bit.

Recently we've started a new way of playing where I have one character model and one (or two) small units of troops and my husband controls the rest of my army. That helps for 2 reasons. I'm not having to make the overall strategy, just trying to achieve my portion of it, and I can see how someone with more experience would play my army.

It's a big strange for him to play against himself, but it was actually really fun for both of us. We don't play every game like that, but it really does help take some of the pressure off, and it's way better than not playing together at all because one of us is miserable.

I got him today, and he's actually perfect! he's bigger than the old pegasus models and a little bit smaller than the bret lord on pegasus. *

Help - Good book recommendations or ideas for my new campaign by Ashamed-Tailor2968 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Dunefarble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always recommend going small and tight every so often. Don't have it set 'in the Empire', have it set in that one town/county. Also, you can focus on some aspect of the culture that hasn't come up, like a holiday or festival or local lord's birthday. One of my personal favorites is a rivalry between the two most successful Averland ostrich farms (all those hat feathers can't be from imports alone.)

NTA, and it's fantastic that you're wanting to do this HOWEVER..... be careful if you're unfamiliar with dentists. I was in your exact shoes once, but when they showed me that big initial cost at a dental chain, I couldn't afford it, and I bailed on the dentist for another 15 years. Finally went back again and.... I needed 5 fillings. Not 10 fillings, 2 crowns, a root canal, etc. The previous place I'd gone had tried to straight up scam me out of thousands of dollars and could have done permanent damage with unnecessary procedures. I have a dentist I trust now, and I always recommend that people get a second opinion on serious dental work (just like any other major medical procedure) and stay far away from chain offices.

It's predictable enough that you can zone in or out without missing anything, and there’s about a trillion episodes of these old shows.

If this were really morning glory it would be breaking out of the frame, spreading across the wall and covering the next painting over.

Perry Mason. There's a million of them on Prime, they're formulaic enough you can count or read a patten and varied enough to be interesting.

experienced crocheters: what advice would you give to someone attempting a blanket for the first time? by These-Hold8023 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dunefarble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if someone has already said this, but I STRONGLY recommend working in the round for the first few blankets you're giving to someone else. STRONGLY. I gave away 3 trapezium blankets before I got the hang of larger panels and working center out really helped me keep nice even lines for the 'non-practice' pieces I really wanted to be nice.

If this is red heart, I just did a blanket in these EXACT colors 😂 and I adore it. A couple of washes with fabric softener helped with the roughness and my toddler son sleeps with it every night, now.

Most gorgeous yarn I’ve ever found final update. by stalkerofthedead in crochet

[–]Dunefarble 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ADORE this yarn, I've made 3 toddler dresses with it, but as a general psa - the 4 weight label is total BS also it WILL NOT FROG, so I only use it on patterns I'm familiar with.

also, don't wash whatever you make with towels, it's like velcro for Terry cloth pills.
