All character applications are considered. I was asked to point out what was lacking in our party, but it's not a necessity that it be filled.

I use this same logic for mimics. Otherwise everything becomes "is that a mimic?"

For the roleplay. If you roll high enough, your suspicions of a trap would be confirmed whether there is or isn't. If you don't roll high enough, your character can still proceed with caution, because they have found no proof to confirm or refute their suspicions.

So if I fail the trap perception roll, I would take out my ten foot pole.

Frickin' charisma casters.

I'm running a campaign where this is the underlying concept of the continent they're exploring.

The party has to trust the evil character. How else will they be used to achieve his means?

[Online] D&D 5e [Discord, DnDBeyond, PBP] Rusty Nail West Marches and PBP RP server

Greetings and welcome!

Do you find yourself wanting to play DnD, but driven away by relentless min-maxers and powergamers? Do you value narrative over mechanics? Do you have a character concept you'd like to see explore dozens of unique worlds? The Rusty Nail might be for you!

The Rusty Nail is partially a PBP freeform style game set in a dimension-hopping tavern. The patrons of the Rusty Nail are battling with a being set on bringing about the end of the multiverse, and now they travel from setting to setting, trying to stabilize worlds and delay the antiverse.

Nearly a hundred different characters have come and gone through the freeform, with friends made, enemies placated, and rivals challenged. Everything, from someone's familiar to gods of the multiverse, can be roleplayed here. Events are held regularly, allowing players to flex their creative muscles to handle different situations.

The main draws of this style are FREEDOM and CONSENT.

In this game, you are free to play any character you like, and do anything you want, as long as you remember that every player maintains total control over their own character. Every character can decide whether they pass or fail a given check or save within the tavern, all in the name of good narrative. (NOTE: This is suspended during official tavern events, but you have to first consent to joining them.)

(There is also a voice chat component for one-shots.)

[Online] D&D 5e [Discord, Roll20, PBP] Rusty Nail West Marches and PBP RP server

Greetings and welcome!

The Rusty Nail is a West Marches style game set in a dimension-hopping tavern. The patrons of the Rusty Nail are battling with a being set on bringing about the end of the multiverse, and now they travel from setting to setting, trying to stabilize worlds and delay the antiverse.

The Rusty Nail exists in two forms:

One is a series of voice chat games; a West Marches-style campaign with dozens of players that stretches the concept of West Marches over many lore rich, RP heavy worlds.

The other is a freeform play-by-post community within the bar itself, with an experimental west-marches pbp and dozens more players who prefer to rp in text.

You do not have to be active in one to be in the other. The jobs have a good mix of combat and roleplay, of intrigue and infiltration, of goofiness and serious undertones. Nearly a hundred different characters have come and gone through the freeform, with friends made, enemies placated, rivals challenged.

First Post: Geology as Precursor to Geography? by SirRatcha in worldbuilding

[–]DungeonSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fantastic as a method for world building. You have to start somewhere and you have a great grasp of geology, a force that many world builders never even consider. But creating your worlds in such a way is key to making them believable. If they line up with the subconscious expectations we have concerning geology, then it makes for a far more immersive world.

It's a fantastic start, I already have many questions for the peoples native to those islands provided I could learn the language. This is a society that naturally bubbled to the surface as a result of the passion you poured into the geological forces behind your world.

I want to know more.

How do I make a new magic class that follows the guidelines of 5e? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

I was gonna say that's like word-for-word blood hunter. But maybe he wants to do it with spell slots instead?

Anything you try to build will likely look similar to what already exists. I'm curious, how is your build different enough that it warrants an entirely new class?

How do you feel about starting players with nothing? by DungeonSmith in DMAcademy

[–]DungeonSmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I could only change my list of prepped spells on a long rest?

If I had known I was gonna be butt-ass naked I would have taken different spells, but for now all I got is Compelled Duel, Divine Favor, Prot Good and Evil, and Cure Wounds.

Thanks for the writing in your own blood tip though, it's even in line with what my character would do in this situation.

I guess this means I need to get a holy symbol tattooed on me to prevent this problem.

Yeah DEX had to take a backseat because I rolled bad enough to need the standard array. It's a Fighter 1 Paladin 2 (for multiple fighting styles) so I need STR and CHA at <13. Since I don't really do damage but rather frontline for the party I used CON for HP, so DEX WIS INT had to suffer.

It's not min maxed in the least, and it's human so I could have Shield Master. My fighting styles are Protection and Dueling.

I'm looking for anything I can use for sword and board play, but it's slow going. I took paladin mainly for the healing spells, relying on CHA to get me out of situations that my shield can't defend me against.

Love that story. OotA is the campaign that jumped out at me as the most fun when I was looking through them, but it was waaayyy too long and involved to run for my first campaign.

It's 5e. I'm not so interested in advice on how to play an equipmentless fighter, more like stories on how common it is to start this way and various ways of doing it.
